Dude, let me ask you one thing before guiding through ur coloring !
Did you vector the character or just hand brushed with plain PS brush?
Looks to me that u vectored this but since the lines are not clean I became doubtful !
with some practice u can get the exact same fresh and hight quality and clean coloring as the one in the scan u provided !
Answer my question so that I know what tips i should give u to improve ur coloring !
(By vectoring I mean using pen tool and shape layer option)
I have used lasso tool to select and bucket to color parts. For every color I have used different layer, you can download my psd file to see, it's MU link I posted...btw I am still newbie at photoshop...can you help? Or could you post some good tutorial? ...I don't know how to paint over black (when I try it looks so bad).
easy way to color hair. fill hair with a medium color, not black. medium color that matches the hair color where you can add multiple layers on lighten, soft light, darken, etc... so you can add lighting and shadows to it. This will also help you build the hairs strands if you need to. Just throwing in a dark or light color is extremely hard to edit.

well...we got a technique called vectoring in PS that helps produce the exact same image in much bigger resolution in PS.this method is particularly effective in reproducing anime images.
It makes use of the pen tool for drawing the lines (clean and thin and absolutely not jaggy ) and shape layer option in order to color it.
theorically explaining this wont work and u should follow tuts to learn.
go to [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and 1st.search for pen tool tutorial in photoshop and 2nd.search for anime vectoring tutorial in photoshop
this method takes sometime to master but the result is what makes it worth it !
Edit: for hair u can search anime hair coloring and u will get tons of tutorials.
accumulate ur patience and go for it ^^
this two are examples of vectoring:
one old work of mine and one by my friend
(look at the characters, they are complete reproduction of exact same image and with best possible quality, though the gray and red wallpaper has got color modification)
well I have read some tutorials and what do you think guys about this one...I haven't touch hair and eyes , I will later make one less complex than this one
EDIT: my final version ...thx luches and Drahcir for tutorial tips
you feeling satisfied about your work is what that matters .
Mine or anybody else opinion isn't that important and its just advice. But if u want my opinion then I have to say you could get a far better result if u follow what I said at my 2nd post !
its got plenty of room for improvement !
4 the first post, i like the one with darker hair becuz suits better with her flashy uniform's colour
4 the second post, how bout make the skin colour a bit lighter?
