Heyyy nice sig for a first attempt, although it is a bit dark and a little rough around the edges of your foreground picture...

I posted here cause I want some criticism on mine too... I'm a little more experienced with photoshop than you are but I'm new at the type I'm attempting. We're having a competition in which everything in the sig must be generated on photoshop (i.e. no pictures from google, etc.) and this is what I came up with:

Constructive criticism is also welcome.
Also, should I make it lighter or leave it this dark?

Rather than lighter, what about messing with the saturation and contrast a bit? I'm a newb to this stuff but trial and error (along with many saved revisions) was all I've ever really done

I'd say make it lighter, maybe try a linear dodge on one of the layers to make the white stand out more.

And an alternate background (fractal generated) plus cont/bright

Any thoughts on how I could improve?

ok, you could change the font of the text in the middle, the fractal is good but see if you can get a better fractal (since it's generated) and merge it with the first background (the one without the fractal). You could also make for instance nyuu brighter and Lucy darker (or the opposite). You can also use some (bloody) red to have a greater effect.

Yeah the font is kinda annoying. I think it's not bad for the amount of time I spent on it (of course, not counting the two hours trying to figure out the intelligent scissors lmao)
