Anyway;; idk how many people on here like manga colouring, but it's something I do to relax, and I think it's a lot of fun! I'mma post a bunch of work I've done, and if people want, I'll make some tutorials maybe? Maybe. Just click the links to see! I don't wanna flood AT with a bunch of silly pictures...not yet anyway.

Just to clarify, I didn't do the line art on those pictures! I just coloured them. This is a thread about manga colouring after all. You're welcome to criticize my work if you want...I just do them to relax, I don't take it super serious or anything! So yah...is anybody else interested in manga colouring?? We can encourage each other to do better and stuff...hahaha;;

Nice work! I'm afraid the best I could do would look like I used a box of crayons in a kids coloring book.

Well I'd like to see anything you do so I guess not! I was just testing the waters to see what I should make tuts about, and thought colouring is a lot of fun!

First of all - great job. I feel that you like to operate within a very distinctive colour palette which makes your illustrations special. I've personally been thinking about trying to colour a few illustrations but quite frankly I've no idea where to start. I've got a ...functional... pc and access to graphics programs but am lacking motivation in sense that those works look like they require a whole lot of experience (well obviously they do) and take ages to finish while my free time is somehow limited.

Would you please share some tips for beginners? Like:

* any specific mangaka who's works you find easy to colour for beginners?
* what graphic software is best to start with?
* any particularly good resources to learn from?
* how long does it take you on average (considering your level of skill of course) to finish one illustration?

Thanks for your time to start the thread in the first place!

Not bad rabbit............ noooooot bad.
Overall they look pretty good. My only criticism would be some of the shading is a bit blotchy.

Some are old, however some look aged. Was this the intended outcome?
I ask because it gives some of the images a retro feel. I think it works well on a couple of them.

It was intended! I used different grungy textures to darken the colour palettes, and it adds a crisper definition of the original line art. And thankyou! I'd use it on all of them but it feels like cheating...t.t

. Any manga that uses simplistic line art and less shading is a good place to start...Naruto, Bleach and early Soul Eater are good.

. I use Adobe Photoshop...that's the software I'm most comfortable with. I'd say for colouring it's probably the easiest, it only requires the most basic knowledge of layers and layer blend modes. I think it's relatively easy in Gimp too. Paint Tool Sai is also really nice for brush work, but for the most options, Photoshop is best. If you're worried about using different versions...I'd say Photoshop CS3 is the best place to start - it's got a simple interface, easy to pick up...and easiest to find on the internet.

. Uhhhh idk haha;; I have a huge folder full of pictures that inspire me, and learning from good practice is the best...I've never seen a tutorial about colouring, which is why I think I'll try and make one soon...sorry orz

. It depends on the level of detail really, but usually between three and five hours. The Natsume colouring (the one w/ all the flowers) took eight I think, but I was really inexperienced...

Edit;; I did this in about twenty minutes, and will make a tut for it later:
