Default Is it just me or is the new VLC way better then MPC? - 08-20-2010, 10:58 PM

Ok I have been using MPC with CCCP for years now with pretty good results but some of the new HD stuff seems to cause it some problems from time to time such as Evangelion 2.2. Recently I noticed that VLC came out with some new patch's so I thought I would check it out again to see if it was up to par with MPC. To my surprise VLC v1.1.3 seems to be able to handle the HD Video much better then MPC by leaps and bounds and the subs look better in it as well. Has anyone else tinkered with the new VLC and noticed any improvement?

/Insert Fanboy over VLC

Ever since my friend showed it to me back in the day, it's always been my default player. I lurve it.

New one? Even Sexier. Plays anything I chuck at it, even 1028/768 720p, and my compy used to hate those. And now, flawless.

Is it just me or does comparing VLC (internal) and MPC (external) not make any sense?

its just you..

1) vlc works better occasionally with some weird encodings (files that won't even play with mpc +cccp)

2) if your computer is quite good enough you don't need more then VLC

3) subs look in both play0rz ze same (at least for me)

I dunno, does the new one at least read the sub font and color properly? All I ever got with old VLC was white Arial.

MPC is the recommended video player.

CCCP beta is the recommended codec pack when it comes to watching anime on a PC. It also officially supports Windows 7 and CoreAVC, now.

CoreAVC 2.0 is a more efficient video decoder compared to ffdshow and actually makes use of dual cores. Make sure to get CoreAVC 2.0 and not a previous version as there are known bugs/problems with the previous versions.

i use cccp with windows media player, why? because with media player classic some videos does not play very softly (often .wmv and .mp4 files, but also .avi and .mkv sometimes)

Is the CCCP beta the 2009/09/09 version ? That's the one I have been using and what I based my above statement on because I found that the new VLC 1.1.3 ran the 1080p evangelion 2.2.2 without being choppy where as MPC did. Normally for regular size files MPC runs just fine though and I kinda prefer the interface for it. I have a a top of the line computer so I know its a codex issue when running very large HD video files.
