Default Jailbreaking a Smartphone is Legal - 07-27-2010, 12:16 AM

If you live in the US and you have a jailbroken cellphone you won't have to worry about any legal ramifications. The FCC has said it's legal to jailbreak a smart phone along with some other cool rulings. Of course it'll void your warranty and the company will shower some hate your way but hey what can they do?

I'm glad that I never had to worry about that with an android phone, but good to see this for the sake of iphone users, although I wonder if more people will jailbreak their iphones? Probably the people that would jailbreak it would jailbreak it regardless.

Why on god's green earth would it be illegal to unlock or jailbreak a cell phone you've paid for yourself? it's subsidized by a cellular service provider but you are paying in terms of a verbal or physically signed agreement to go on contract for x amount of years.
