Default Visual studio 2005 in 64-bit vista - 02-09-2010, 03:07 PM

hi folks,

I have a vista home pre 64 bit os. I tried to install visual studio 2005 standard edition but i am unable to install as visual studio 2005 is 32-bit supported and my os is 64-bit. Please help overcome this problem.

Thank you

It's not possible, unless they have a 64 bit release, alternatively you could just downgrade to 32 bit :\

try visual studio 2008?

that's the "demo". unlock the full features by going to add/remove programs, vs2008, repair, add serial key (or something like that, I forgot the exact name).

there is a way.. first you need to install the, [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

^ in order to install the SQL Server 2005

next install regularly the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] which is needed for running Visual Studio 05

^ if these steps succeed continue with installing Visual Studio 2005

good luck!

(this is the explanation mentioned in the SQL-Server Link)

It definitely will work. It's what I use at work. I remember having trouble with the SQL server install too. The other thing was to apply the service packs after installing:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

and SQL Server 2005 needs at least [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Finally when you open VS2005 you will need to set it to open with 'run as administrator' or at least I had to.

firstly 64 bit os do have some support for 32 bit applications.
Vista has some support but if you are not getting the Visual studio 2005 to work , you can use 2008( it works perfectly on vista) or download Visual studio 2010 RC1
