Taking a class will help a lot. I started on Rosetta but i couldn't stay motivated. Also I had i took the initiative to learn hiragana and katakana first through an internet 5 dollar study thing which helped a lot. If you go Rosetta though then learn hiragana and katakana at least first that way you don't have to read the romaji setting in it and it will in turn increase your reading the recognition.

That site has an interesting approach to learning Japanese which I've found works for me. The only reason I haven't made considerable progress is my laziness. :|

I am actually conversational in the language, which is a nice skill. Knowing that I can go to Japan and have the ability to make my way around has made this year of studying worth it. Especially since I'm going to Japan next year!!!

Jelly?

Thanks Weika and Drah for the awesome sigs

that's the point of learning it first. T_T You can learn it in a week or two depending on how much time you study.

I can learn Hiragana in 3 hours total.
I don't know if I need to take a class or not. I learn Jap by myself and my result is far better than my friend who takes a class.

All I need is some methods I feel native and interesting (watch anime is one of them )
