Default Anyone care for an Anime Manager? - 01-11-2012, 02:05 AM

Hello there, all you anime lovin' people. I've started work on an Anime manager/organizer of sorts for a friend and I'm wondering if there are any tech savvy people out there who would like to give me feedback or be apart of the development process. I'm sure a lot of you have massive collections of anime and would like to organize it all/document it in an organized fashion.

It's an open source project for those of you who think i'm just advertising.
Here's my original post: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

It helps if you know how to be serious and silly at the same time.
Thanks in advance.

P.S.
You can PM me here or on MAL.

You want to be my anime manager? Is there a training regimen involved?

(sorry - looks like I can only manage the silly part)...

But now that I've looked at your specs and thought about it... All personal data would exist on one's own PC, right? There's no way funbagnation can get on and see what all we've got stored, right?

"There were 3 sisters, and, a man might ride for days and never set eyes upon such maidens. Marie, tall and grave, and Blanche, petite and gay, and the dark Agnes, eyes that went through you like a waxed arrow. I stayed there as long as four days, and was betrothed to them all; for it seemed shame to set one above her sisters, and might make ill blood in the family. Yet, for all my care, things were not merry in the house, and I thought it well to come away."

I suppose it could be helpful. However I have over two terabytes (well over 300 series movies and ova's), of anime and I have no problem knowing where everything is. Including it's genre. The question is how much anime would you need to make it a hassle to find something. I can't imagine having trouble until well over 4 terabytes. The next question is just how many ppl will store that much anime. I would guess very few.

I thoroughly enjoyed that.

But yes, no personal information is being transmitted. The only information that the program would ever ask for, is a login to MyAnimeList, but that's much further down the road. A feature like that would have to be asked for specifically.

The screenshot of your program looks like something that's saved to a 3 1/2" floppy disc.

Yeah, most programs start out as a console, since that's the easiest for implementation and testing. I have a friend working on a GUI (graphical user interface) for the program . Right now, like I said in that post, it's only Alpha stage. I need someone to find bugs for me

Haha, yes. So then an anime manager would suite you nicely, yes? Think about an interface where you can view the latest released anime and have direct search access by tags or otherwise, to your own collection... I could even build-in a recommendation system - down the road.

I prefer the sky to be the limit.

hahaha yeah. Like i said reckon it would be helpful towards me and probably other people too.

But...

Theres is one thing i would like to ask...

If i had downloaded an episode onto my laptop for instance and but then forgotten about it as i usually use my desktop PC, would your Anime Manager be able to tell me that i have downloaded that anime episode and it is located under this folder, of this drive, of this user, of this computer/laptop???

If so then id definitely be one to download your software immediately =P I also wouldnt mind a manga manager too =P
