Default Mobile Phones in Japan/Japan travel advice thread - 01-06-2012, 04:48 AM

Those of you that have travelled to Japan/are travelling/are good information seekers.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 bought in the UK. In <5 months I am going to travel to Japan and stay for 7 weeks. Having my phone available to me with internet access would be extremely useful. Can anyone tell me if it's possible, and if so what I need to know?

I am also going to South Korea, but as I understand they run on CDMA so there's no chance my phone will work there.

"There were 3 sisters, and, a man might ride for days and never set eyes upon such maidens. Marie, tall and grave, and Blanche, petite and gay, and the dark Agnes, eyes that went through you like a waxed arrow. I stayed there as long as four days, and was betrothed to them all; for it seemed shame to set one above her sisters, and might make ill blood in the family. Yet, for all my care, things were not merry in the house, and I thought it well to come away."

Try a message to chococya96. He just got back from Japan and I'm pretty sure he was in S.Korea not too long ago.

Thanks, this is rather helpful. I'd love to have a prepaid sim card that I can simply slot in to my current phone, but I will need to have it unlocked beforehand by the looks of things. Also, I do have friends already in Japan, so I could simply send them the money to buy one for me . Having mobile internet while I am there would be invaluable for getting around.

EDIT: This can now be a general advice thread for travel to Japan also. Any other advice for me?
