Rainmeter when you have an iconless desktop, although the alt+tab compatability is horrible Q.Q
I mainly use it to tell the time and show computer stats.

Either way, its not like you HAVE to have no icons on your desktop. Its just a matter of preference.
I personally use my desktop icons to keep my most used programs, links, & games in reach. Therefore, unlike most people, I don't use rainmeter as the main attraction of my desktop but only as a informative tool on the PC's status & the stock market.

I use them for different purposes such as CPU performance, RSS feeds, winamp playlist, although there's also a combination of windows sidebar in my desktop.
