Using file hosters is definitely safer, the file hoster has your information but they probably won't tell the police because they are making money with their users, and why should they tell on their users? I think in some cases they can be forced to give the police information but that's only if you UPLOAD files.

But anyhow, your are still leaving a digital print where ever you go...unless you are good enough to avoid leaving a trail. But, then your internet provider might still have a record of your browsing.

I use megaupload all the time, it's perfectly fine so long as you don't exceed the daily limit or it's licensed. check sites like animea.net for the licensing status or use a youtube downloader.

IRC might be a safe way.

In my country, I don't think any there is any anime license that is applied (and obeyed).
Only some those who sell anime & movies discs illegally with high quanlity are arrested and punished with some money.
Nothing is tracked except for those related to politics.

It's actually cheaper for me to buy DVDs when they're available..my internet is expensive.

Plus I have a CR account even if I don't use it with the website so i'm still paying for the CR rips.

Funimation also has a youtube channel, so I've gone through that for many of my series (I've used a download helper to DL them).

I got Shikabane Hime, Dance in the Vampire Bund, Soul Eater, Shuffle, Kaze no Stigma from Funimation's U-tube channel.

You'd be surprised how much you can get legit for free.
