Default Do you want real live action movies from U.S or Japan? - 09-19-2011, 08:55 PM

Do you want real live action movies such as Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Fairy Tail and etc.. being made by U.S Hollywood or made by Japan?

I noticed that Hollywood keeps messing up on anime/manga and video game real live action movie. Hollywood made some mistakes on comic book movies but they have surely improved for Marvel Comics real live movies and D.C Comics has slightly improved due to Batman and Green Lantern and still has more ways to go before they can catch up to Marvel. Hollywood ruined Dragon Ball real live action movie. It was the most terrible movie ever made like a B rated movie but with good visual effects (although it was lacking and terrible as well for DB). There is Resident Evil video game, personally I give Resident Evil real live action movies 3.5 out of 5 because its lacking and doesn't seem all too great (and why did they came up with ALICE?? I never heard of that character in Resident Evil) but it is an okay movie to me. Then there is DOA (Dead or Alive), Tekken (The worse ever made), King of Fighters (The worse ever made) and so many more video game real live action movies, that are terrible.

So my point of all this is, since some of you like or don't like the movies of the video games and comics that hollywood made, would u want hollywood to make your favorite manga/anime into a real live action movie or would you prefer Japan makes the real live action movies from your favorite manga/anime?

I heard bad things about the DB movie too. It's not like i care or something, but if they have the money for it, why don't adapt it. If they make a hit, the number of anime fans can only grow. They can't ruin anything even if they make something really bad i won't look on itm just do this job, since they licensed it from the author it's okay for me. I only watched Toki o kakeru shoujo live action version and that wasn't bad at all (not because it was Japanese, they make crap out of diamond too).

DB is a pretty silly cartoony story & characters. You run into lots of issues when you convert stories like those to live-action. Did you ever see Robin William's 'Popeye'?

Japan has their own issues with these conversions. They have a bad habit of making them look like Power Rangers.

"There were 3 sisters, and, a man might ride for days and never set eyes upon such maidens. Marie, tall and grave, and Blanche, petite and gay, and the dark Agnes, eyes that went through you like a waxed arrow. I stayed there as long as four days, and was betrothed to them all; for it seemed shame to set one above her sisters, and might make ill blood in the family. Yet, for all my care, things were not merry in the house, and I thought it well to come away."

Kubo Tite said that his art style for characters is not Live-action material. He did that on purpose and now HW try to make a penny out of this is just ridiculous. DOD is just TOO BS since all of the actor lack the charm of the original. KOF is just too irrelevant to the real story, Tekken is just BS and don't make me start with DB.

I know the only stupid question is the one unasked but come on. Anyone who has any appreciation for anime and manga will only give one answer. Although the answer is the same, a better question would be, has there ever been a good adaptation of an anime or manga that turned out not to be a disappointment?

@alcaray
By the way, I could have spent the rest of my live quite happily not remembering " Robin William's 'Popeye". So thanks for that.

Death Note I think was okay to a decent adaptation.

But I personally like the lighting, special effects, physical effects that the U.S can pull off. However, Japanese screenplay can be quite entertaining (question is how much in context is it?)

Overall, I'd say that an individual studio should rise that specifically focuses on the development of anime-film adaptations. Due to both the lack of experience and support for anime-film adaptations, it is really hard for them to improve.
