Has anyone else seen the new labels the FDA are requiring cigarette manufacturer's to use?

Though I quit a over a year ago, I think the government has gotten a little bit excessive when it comes to cigarettes. Hell, alcohol is just as bad as cigarettes in some ways, but you don't see Budweiser having to put pictures of accident victims on their beer cans. I don't see why the government just doesn't outlaw smoking altogether since they're obviously trying to put cigarette manufacturers out of business.

Ironically, these measures only target cigarettes and don't affect people who smoke cigars or roll their own products. Since cigarette taxes have increased substantially over the years many people have already moved to other tobacco products where they don't have to pay the same taxes. Smokers still get their nicotine fix, but state governments lose out on millions if not billions in revenues.

I just hope it will work as intended....there is nothing more infuriating that when you step out of a bus and some douche exhales cigarette smoke right in your face. Which is imho the main problem of cigarettes - they directly affect people around. Yes, people heavily drinking alcohol are dangerous too, but unless they get in a vehicle they don't affect you as much D: Anyway me talking to self...

In short - I agree with the labels, though sadly, I dun think they will work >.>

It's about the same like my country. Actually one thing I agree is the change of label that they put dangerous image like cancer but....I didn't agree with the tax increment because of this thing. It's been disturbing my allowance

Lol my country already has those labels on front and back side. I think it stated in the constitution that the warning label must cover 80% of the packet.

Though, yeah, these labels are pretty much useless imo.

At best these labels might scare a few kids into not trying cigarettes, but it won't do anything for adults. The dangers of smoking is not a secret, its been well known and publicized for decades, yet people continue to smoke and new people start smoking every day inspite of this information. So adding a few pictures to the pack isn't going to make a difference.

agreed, they should enroll in lung cancer patient grand rounds coupled with emphysema grand rounds 2 weeks each year during their choice of smoking, get a card like MJ since its a drug too, tax the hell out of it, or go organic cigs you grow your own and roll, your choice. Although, even natural, risk of cancers,etc are up, just not as high as the laced, 4k chemical ones that are being sold today. Its sad that no company besides a few do this (organic)and reverse idiot thinking that one joint or a pack of organic cigs will kill you. So , smoke a joint and a cig every now and then its all good. Everything in moderation, even moderation. Ima doc i can spout this. =) Unfortunately YOU have to control dosage, and yeah its a drug just like the pill type. ok im done too.

Heh, cigarettes are kind of like the fast food of the tobacco world, people know its loaded with shit thats bad for you, yet they still stuff their faces with it anyways.
