My piece of advice from previously subbing quite a few years of my life? Retire now and just DL.
Lol. No seriously, you know what the best groups are? The ones formed as a group of friends, that know absolutely nothing about subbing. If you all mutually know each other, have the interests, and work together well as a team, you don't need someone else's help. You may learn your own way of doing things that you think is just as good as someone who's done it for years, or releases 3 shows a season, or has the fanboys/girls backing them. There are quite a few How-to's, write-ups, posts, etc etc on the subbing process and all of it's various parts that are very detailed. You can try google and there is even some good informative videos on youtube. Just don't get caught up in the, "who's all dl'ing or what people are saying about our subs," jibber-jabber. When you do, that's when it becomes more like a job than a little side hobby. (That's personally what happened to myself and the last group I was in) The only thing I would suggest is that if you do use a group's script (.ass file) and you want to release your version, you properly try to at least ask them. A lot of work goes into those scripts, it's just a proper way to go about things. Quote:

That wasn't horrible English, lol. You just basically said what he said. Actually the exact same thing, plus named specifics. |

If I understood right...
use Aegisub to edit subtitle file, which you've extracted from episode. Mkv merge to merge subtitle file with video, without needing to encode video again. Use megui if you need to get rid of old subtitle track, and re-encore video without original track, by using your own translated .ass file. For karaoke/type-settign etc., use aegisub, or after effects. If someone can provide better translation on that, just point it out. |
