Manga rock kicks ass even the free version, crunchyroll is the scourge of the internet and the videos only work on wifi.

There is a great anime site for iphones [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
You can download the episodes by using the program Modify Headers it mas so that your computer is recognized as an iphone (because it works only on iphone's)
When you Install Modify Headers above you can find a help option and you learn how it goes.
Then when you find the anime you like just press the right mouse and choose ''save link as'' and that's it, download it to your iphone and enjoy.(The episodes are like 45-80MB with great quality and subs)
Or you can just download instantly through your iphone.

I just read manga straight from online readers on my phone browser. I find all the manga apps in the store are mediocre and clunky.

As for watching anime, you can convert mkv files to avi to make them playable on your phone. I use an app called AVPlayer to watch shows.

I like the app called Mango. It's made by a student and it has an amazing amount of manga on it. Also the bookmarks are quite handy!

Well not sure how relevant this can be, but get Good Player for the iDevices. I have it for my iPad, and it plays my mkv files with subs near perfect.
