Default new smartphone for anime mkvs - 05-14-2011, 03:14 AM

Hi Guys,

I was thinking of getting a new smartphone to watch anime and was pretty excited about the new samsung galaxy s2.

I download a lot of HD(720p) and FHD(1080p) anime on mkv format and embedded subs.

My key requirements for the buying the samsung galaxy s2 would be:-
a) no conversion required (xvidpsp or whatnot)
b) plays mkv files with embedded subs
c) plays 1080/720 files

After some research i know that the galaxy s can do the following:-
a) play mkv 1080/720 files
b) play embedded subs with rockplayer.

I have done some research online and no websites would be able to confirm if the S2 plays mkv files, 1080p/720p with embedded subs.

If the S2 doesnt do it, i'll be willing to wait for the HTC Sensation or Rider or even LG Optimus 3D

Cheers.

There's an app in the market (can't remember the name), that will extract the subtitles from the mkv so you can just play the video and give the sub file.

i.e. Rockplayer as i mentioned. I agree there are more out there like yxplayer, mplayer, arc(or arm) media and vplayer but my research shows the best one is still rockplayer. Note that some phones such as htc incredible s and evos dont play the files really well. Seems rather choppy.

Sorry, but is there a point in playing 1080p on a 4.3" LCD? Does it even have enough pixels to make use of it? 720p is already overkill.

Um... I thought people were stupid when I first saw them watching videos on IPOD video way back, still how can you even read the subs on a 2.5inch screen. I get it if its dubbed, but seriously ?_?

Buy a Samsung Galaxy Tablet its pocket size but great for viewing videos.

I have an iphone and i watch anime fine with my 3.5 inch screen ,so there's no problem . Also its more for people traveling and don't want to carry a 10 inch tablet.
