Funimation Sues 1,337 Torrent Users Over One Piece -

Important news, my thoughts are posted in the link at Animesuki. Given the nature of this place I would imagine that many of the downloaders of One Piece torrent in question may have come from here.

Animesuki thread: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
So if you go to Walmart instead of Walgreens to get soda, can Walgreens call you reprehensible?
Why fault people for making choices based on what suits them when they aren't using aggression or force against someone else? It's not as though Funimation deserves money just because they happen to exist anymore than anyone else.
You should go with that service that suits you and pay for what you believe to be effective to make that continue. I buy thousands of dollars of Funimation products every year, but I download what is streamed because of the higher quality and higher level of convenience. I buy from Funimation because I like the product that they provide in the physical format, and yes, because I know some of that goes back to production companies.
What do you think Funimation actually makes for each individual viewing of it's stream in advertising? Surely someone who knows more about the unofficial websites can speak on that regard?
But I am doubtful that we are talking about anything more than pennys in profit on a viewing of a stream and yet even if Funimation is only seeking 150,000 from this that's substantially (10x or even 100x) more per person than they could possibly have lost, and again.. what right do they have? If they aren't offering the preferred service it's no different in my opinion than someone choosing Walmart over Walgreens.
Now I know you probably believe in IP since you made the argument, so I'll shoot you here rather than debate that out because that's been rehashed a lot and I debate on that issue elsewhere: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

The point is that they paid money for the licensing rights for the north america region.
And when faced with the fans complaints that they don't want to wait months for new episodes to be released on DVD, they start streaming it online instead.
You seem to be confusing the end distrubitor with the production company. Even if its only a translation its still producing additional content. If I want to buy a can of coke, then yes I expect that at some point the coca-cola company will recieve some money for it.
EDIT: and while I don't entirely agree with the concept of intellectual property, I will say that I see a massive difference between copying someones idea, and copying something that someone has spent many hours of time and effort creating, with the specific intention of selling.

Wow, that's nasty. I don't watch One Piece, but would like to start soon...I wonder if they are still trying to sue people...maybe I should download it from this site instead, if they allow me to new download threads again...!?
