mmmm I read the link and a couple of others within the link and for the most part all I got out of it was they'd ban anything with “improper glorification of illegal sexual activity, etc.” from being sold regularly in tokyo.

Basically no voyeurs, gropers, rapists, flasher, perverted acts that would generally be a crime IRL being glorified(Air Gear).

I don't see the problem if thats all.

I didn't see anything regarding fan service there(unless they're underage, or the result of a peeper/pervert), though it wouldn't bother me if they lowered the amount of it(since a couple of animes are practically pure fanservice, may as well go all the way and look at some hentai instead).

Perhaps the article wasn't very clear but I didn't see anything banning school uniforms in it(unless said uniform wearers were underaged and having sex, which is what the Yaoi mangaka's stuff got pulled for)

The only problem I have is that it will most likely ban sexual innuendo by lolis, in Tokyo anyways(how will mitsudomoe, kodomo no jikan, and ichinensei ni nacchattara be affected T_T)

Of course all I have to go on was the information provided in the link and the quotes within which were presumably segments of the bill.

It's a good thing in general, now we might see good anime and not all these ecchi fanservice crap.

...didn't they have a population decreasing crisis there?
and they are discouraging ecchi anime and manga
well since it's only banned in Tokyo maybe we'll see a great otaku immigration to all other provinces.

Actually Rush,

The bill doesn't do anything for ecchi. What it does is ban gay couples in manga for kids under 18, so yuri and yaoi anime would suffer. Which I dislike because there can still be ecchi in anime but two girls/two guys can't hold hands anymore?

Also, what the bill mainly restricts is manga's ability to offer social commentary on things like the status of women. I honestly dislike this more than an ecchi/yaoi/yuri/fanservice ban. The government is restricting the ability for mangakas to speak out against what they see as ills in society which CERTAINLY hampers their free speech.

Final note, if 10 manga companies are not going to sponsor the Tokyo Anime Fair, there must be something else here that truly restricts artists, or else they wouldn't be so against the bill.

tl;dr
I'm fucking pissed that this passed.

Thanks Weika and Drah for the awesome sigs

red_moon the problem isn't what the bill says is banned its the fact it doesn't say what's banned. they use phrases like “likely to interfere with the healthy development of youth” and use ect. a lot so that pretty much anything that a group of old farts who bluntly admit there hate for anime and manga feel like banning.

They made it so vague so they can ban anything at their own discretion as long as its still revolves around the bill. Darn, haters gonna keep hating.

As Koga says, this is pretty much political bullshit that is once again trying to stop creativity and freedom within Japan's entertainment industry. The same industry that they looked to for helping save their own economy back in 2009. Ironically this article came out last year:

I believe that attempts by ANY government to limit ANY man of his ability for creativity and free speech through any median is unjust and could possibly be going against the Japanese people's Universal Human Rights.

Under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:
* Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

But hey, I'm just a random pissed-off idealist college student in America, what do I know. =,=

might as well kiss all the late night uncensored anime goodbye.
I don't think that law will pass, otherwise Tokyo would go bankrupt, there aren't that stupid to destroy there economy?
Also most anime have ecchi components, even Naruto.
Or is it that they just want to ban doujutsu( this word is written wrong )?
