Default Newsgroups and Animes? Is it worth it. - 10-10-2010, 01:04 AM

Hello

I currently live in the UK, and with O2, and I usually download using one of the following premium filhosts Megaupload, Hotfile and Megashares, (After 5+ year decided not to renew Rapidshare after they kept on deleting files and their download policies just stopped making sense.)

But this past few months I've been having problems downloading from one host or another, couldn't download from hotfile for over a month and now that has been sorted I'm having trouble with Megaupload. Apparently this is because access to these servers is going through IWF proxys, so they can monitor our download or something, but this leads to all downloads I make (atleast the isp I use) registering the same ip address as thousands of others, thus blocking access to my premium account, specially when using jdownloader.

I used to download movies and such quite allot before and was always told how Newsgroups is the fastest and safest way to download, so was thinking of using newsgroups instead of fileservers, but what i'd like to know is does anyone else use them, that they think of them and would I be able to get the same number of animes using newsgroups as I would fileservers?

I mainly download animes now anyway so it would be pointless if I brought a newgroup account and found Animes didn't get uploaded there.

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. Also please don't recommend using torrents, they slow my entire computer down, it hogs all the dl/ul resourses meaning I can't surf whilst downloading, and it's the least secure method of downloading.

Your only real solution is to move out of the UK and get away from their idiotic internet policies.

Hmm. Personally I don't think Usenet would be worth it if your main purpose is downloading anime.

You can check out what is available from here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

However, rather than that, I would recommend that you subscribe to a premium anime DDL site, such as animeground or national anime. National anime is only $5 a month and has an amazing archive (I've tried it).

And I believe that Animetake also has a FTP, though I haven't tried it.

Lastly, you can download anime from xdcc bots on IRC for free. #news on rizon has shitloads of bots - [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Ah~~ Why don't you listen to raven's advice and just use your money to help donate to animetake and you'll become a donor and you get access to their FTP it's way more beneficial...
And considering that now you mainly just download anime anyway... So you'll get to kill three birds with one stone...

- Donor
- Help animetake
- Get access to FTP animes (Faster download speed)

I've been using usenet almost exclusively to download anime for the past 2 years.
I'd say about 95% of the time anime releases are posted to the various groups around the same time as they pop up on sites like animetake. Every once in awhile I either have to download them elsewhere or wait a day or so for someone to post em up.

The good thing about it is almost two years later I can still download something that is posted to usenet today. I don't have to rely on seeders or worry about files on sharing sites being reported and deleted and there are automated systems like sabnzb when used along with rss feeds that can download my content automatically.

All in all I'd say don't give up on it just yet.
Take time to acquaint yourself with various usenet software and nzb indexers then make a decision.
You don't have to pay an arm and a leg for usenet access either like some of the giant sites would have you believe.
I pay $8 a month for 650+ days of retention, 20 connections, and ssl support /w unlimited download/bandwidth which I max out my internet connection almost constantly at 15-20Mbit.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I have a better idea what to go for now.

I completely forgot about IRC, I remember using that almost exclusively, before Torrents and filehosts became popular. but to be honest I hated waiting in a queue to download from them. But they've probably changed in the past decade.

I didn't even realise this site had their own ftp server might have to try them out to see what it's like.

Hikaricore, who are you using for your usenet provider? I was thinking Usenetserver or Newsdemon, but sounds like you get the same service for slightly less so might be worth going with them. Also what software would you recommend? The biggest selling point for Usenet is the SSL connections and 2 year retention, which is a godsend with current climate file host being forced to monitor and delete files from their servers and laws being passed that make questionable downloads unsafe for the public.

I think i'll go for usenet anyway just not sure which providor, and decide whether to subscribe to animetake or not. it would probably work out the same as paying three filehosts a year.

This is strange, I'm in the UK and on O2, no problems here with downloading.

Yeah it's back to normal today, but have had this problem twice this week, Last week you couldn't download using JDownloader if you had your setting at autodownload. it's getting frustrating.
