Default OnLive - Could this take consoles and PC's out? - 03-26-2009, 07:24 AM

There's a new service on the horizon the will probably be competing with today's consoles, take a good look at this article:

This will make the need for gaming PC's lower, but I am not sure if it really will take out consoles in general or just compete with them.

This has vaporware written all over it.
It needs more tachyon broadbands and farms of super computers since it's
supposed to be based on cloud computing. (and who will PAY for all of that? We the people?)

I believe it's going to be bad. But how bad, we'll have to wait and see...

I've seen a few discussions about this already. The main problem would be internet speed. Unless there's a decent speed, most likely you're not going to be able to enjoy it as much. Most definitely will not kill of console and PC gaming though. Most of us still prefer to have a "hard copy" instead of just internet streaming~

We have to remember this "could". I've been always updated on consoles news ever since I was 8yo. I saw many things, like the Dreamcast and many other consoles failing.
I'm quite like pretty sure this will be something hard to do.

First of all:
You'd need a hell of a broadband or else it won't work.

Second, we need to think about poor countries.
Here on Brazil, we can manage to buy a console if we save some money (PS3: 791 dollars, Xbox 360: 604 dollars, Wii: 500 dollars), but we won't even dare affording a game (Metal Gear 4 for PS3: 78,75 dollars, Project Gothan Racing 4 for Xbox 360: 81 dollars, Wii Mario Power Tennis: 65 dollars) and the reason of that is our government tax over eletronic equipment (60%). But even tough, it's not very hard to find someone with a Xbox 360 or a Wii, so we have a big market for consoles and pirate games.

And this "OnLive" thing looks like runs only original games.

Even if they did come out with it + one hell of a broadband... I'd buy it and keep my gaming PC. <3 It's so much more versatile in the end.

How to bring and sell a game on Brazil

First, buy it on US (Total = 20 Dollars)
Second, bring it by air transport (Total cost till now = 30 Dollars)
Third, Pay the government taxes (Total cost till now = 50 Dollars)
Fourth, Get your profit

Total final cost: 71 Dollars.

Problem: Since when did game companies allow their games to be used by this shit?

Indeed. Companies like Konami, RARE and many others, won't like this. Actually it seems they're using a computer (Windows, for sure...) to play all these games, so erm... PPL would problably rather buy a good computer instead of paying a high-speed internet and some monthly fee to play it.

Yahoo has shitty news. It could be another lame joke or something as I expect this not to come out or else it would come on every single gaming site.

Conclusion: No one is interested in this cheap shit where you have to pay monthly for. I'd rather pay my monthly tax and buy myself a newer graphic card.
