How to read Japanese visual novels:

This is supposedly a high quality translation program where you need a license. This should make it superior to all the free translation addons and programs, such as Google Translate or Babelfish and similar.

Here is where you get it. Download the V14 trial version:

These two cracks needs to be placed in the same folder you install the program:

Now you need a texthooker program. The most common one is called AGTH (Anime Games Text Hooker) and I'm sure people have heard of it before, however, due to it being a pain to install(at least in my case) I've found another program called ITH (Interactive Text Hooker).

Get the latest ITH: 2.2 (2011.5.3).
There's a bunch of tutorial links, guides and what not, you can choose to check them out, but I simply ignored them and found another guide.

Utawarerumono's my favorite visual novel by far. The characters are incredible, the story is one of the best too, and it has a funny strategy rol game inside. The anime is good, but it could have been better.

Fate Stay Night is my second favorite, and the only one that is close to utaware. Once again, great characters and storyline, and in this case, it was well adapted into the anime.

I guess my 3rd favorite would be tsukihime... but this visual novel doesn't have an anime.

I really want to play clannad's and shuffle's visual novels, but they haven't been translated yet. And I might give chaos head a chance once it's fully translated.

As for the doujin games, i've played a bunch of them, but apart from melty blood all the rest were crap.

My fav. VN is Tsukihime then Fate/stay night. Same thing with Titens, I plan to play Clannad and Shuffle once they get translated , Melty Blood is my personal favourite 2D game , BUT I'm totally into Fate /Unlimited Codes nowadays I literally play it everyday when I get the chance of course

I'm basically the same as Weika, but I have yet to even try out the "Fate/Unlimited Codes" game. But I am totally crazy about the "Melty Blood" series. I haven't been able to try "Melty Blood: Actress Again" though...

"Melty Blood" is a fighting game extra/sequel to "Tsukihime". Just so you know...

It actually came out to arcades summer of last year. I heard they're gonna port to ps2 sometime in 2010 so until then *drools*...
