I don't know about hardest, but Gradius 3 has to be one of the most frustrating games ever made, because you spend 20+ minutes progressing through the levels, getting power-ups and doing all this crazy stuff, and just when you start thinking you're a badass, you touch a wall, and it's all over. My roommate got so pissed at this game that he smashed it to pieces with a hammer. The funny part is it still worked!

I also think that Ecco the Dolphin deserves at least an honorable mention here, even though most of the game is pretty easy, the few parts that are hard are just insane.

This is true. Even if only for the last level which had a difficulty that borderlined on just being a prank.

You just called Star ocean 3 and Devil May Cry 3 EASY? Try some for your self and you will regret those words after you tried Universe and 4d for SO3 and Dante must Die for DMC3. I can count several hundreds times you get K.O.

Lmaooo ; Star ocean is easy and DEVIL MAY CRY IN DANTE MUST DIE I FINISH IT WITHOUT A PROBLEM since i play 1 n 2 ... 3 is the easies one actually ... Beowulf + Rebellion or Agnas&Rudar = OP .

hmmmm...with all the variations of games today...I cant possibly decided or choose but one thing specifically I cant forget is the game of sims....your own life with unending struggle to make it satisfied despite the odds, even if you have cheated there is no guaranteed way your avatar would be happy.
