Default IGN, GS, GameFAQs Ratings - 10-10-2009, 10:10 PM

So i was on IGN earlier and someone was bitching about why ?????? had a higher rating than ?????? when ?????? sucked ****.

What do you all think of their ratings? I think places like IGN are tough on any game that isn't a FPS. Although they just gave Demon's Souls a 9.4 and from what i've seen that looks about right.

A group of people cannot determine how good a game is or not. Its best to try the game yourself and then judge to continue with it or not.

generally... i look at ign and gamespot and then i check out user reviews - specifically the people that give it a very low rating. i find gamespot tends to be more accurate to my tastes, but its always good to check out a few reviews of why people thought it was terrible.

if it still holds after that i check out youtube.

so many games available... cant just say try them all on your own. if gamespot is giving a game like a 5.0 or some terrible score, im most likely going to ignore the game completely - they cant be too far off in their review. If they gave it such a low score, theres PLENTY more games available that will likely hold my interest better anyways.

Lately I've pretty much only had the time to play big name sequels so I guess it really doesn't matter.

Normally I don't even check reviews. I have a couple of friends who follow them tho and I guess I do get some info from them...

My brother made a reference to Revenge of the Nerds. He was negative eleven when it came out. I'm pretty sure that qualifies it as a classic.

I find that IGN and GS have an atleast somewhat professional approach to their reviews, so they can be a decent source of information when trying to decide whether to get a game or not. However I avoid user reviews like the plague, simply because user reviews are almost always extremely biased, so they're useless for making an informed decision.
As for people crying that meh game deserved a higher rating than blah game, thats just fanboyism at its finest, no matter how terrible a game is, theres always someone out their who thinks its the holy grail of gaming.
