If you play an MMO, what keeps you coming back to it?

I'm curious about what others have to say on this subject. I know that people play MMO's for a large variety of reasons, whether they're just burning daylight, enjoy the act of raiding, are avid roleplayers, or something else entirely. What I'd like to understand more is why people keep coming back.

The current king of MMO's, World of WarCraft, has been running for years and many of it's first customers continue to subscribe every month. Why is that? Do they love the grind, have a passion for obtaining rare items in-game, enjoy the online communities, or what?

I'm very interested in your answer.

I don't know about WoW it really bored me when you hit the level cap.

Same thing with Ragnarok Online I always go back to that and I have no reason why it just never gets boring to me.

Are there any that you do play and come back to? This thread was intended for people who do play MMO's.

Being one who played WoW seriously for a while, with WoW i can honestly tell you the end-game is all about making your e-peen bigger and boosting your ego, of course that's not true for all, but it is definitely the case for most. I can go in major depth as to why, though...

What Kacie said. I don't know about hardcore crazies, but that's the reason for majority of the casual MMO gamers I know.
