As in Anime, if the VN has an amazing soundtrack it can do wonders to add to the quality, but in the end, if the story is bleh there's not really any saving it. If the graphics are really bad that can detract from the experience as well. If I wanted a dull, uninteresting backdrop I would go read a good book.

Story comes first with me. Good art is nice, but it doesn't have to be anime in style as long as it goes with the story. A horror VN with splatter type art can be quite atmospheric.
NOT a fan of VNs with voice tracks. I read a hell of a lot faster than most people talk. |

;_; I share this problem :/
For me, a great story is the most important aspect of an VN. Like-able/identifiable characters are a close second. Which is why Ever17 is, and probably will always be, my favourite VN of all times. |

Ever 17? I'll have to check that one out! Thanks! At this point in time, "Ballad for an Evening Butterfly" is my favorite, but that could be because it was the first VN I ever saw. It's very simple in design and execution, and it's far from perfect, (the English editor could have used a few more lessons in grammar,) but the story really kept my attention. |
