Default Xenosaga 1 and PS3 will it work? - 04-11-2011, 04:10 PM

So I been thinking of playing the Xenosaga games... but it seems that there is no European release for Episode 1.

I was wondering then would US or Japanese versions work on the PS3? (if I understand correctly PS3 is not region locked in any way?) Because it certainly won't work on my EU PS2, right?

Thanks in advance.

PS3 is not backwards compatible. But if it was then yes, you could.

Now you should ALL go watch this movie "Tangshan Dadizhen" (or "Aftershock" in English) right now. NOW.

Finally, a pic.

PS3 is backwards compatible, but only some old fat versions. there will be a toll to play ps2 on ps3 launched this year in japan i guess.

I was under impression that newer PS3s try to emulate PS2 games (since they lack the actual hardware). Anyways after checking few things, it seems that Xenosaga 2 and 3 work fine while 1st one glitches halfway through the game or something, making it unable to finish the game.

Well, I suppose there's always a PS2 emulator for PC?

I thinks he more asking about the region codes of the non Blu-ray era.
On that note I have no idea. I have no problem running Japanese games on my PS3 but that's PS3 games not PS1/PS2. I have on of the original launches form Nov 2006 so mine is backwards compatible. I'm pretty sure on the Blu-ray side of the PS3 is region free. I think the actual DVD (Red) side is still regional.

EDIT: According to the beholder of all knowledge, Google, NO.

I'm in Afghanistan...... grrrrrrrrrrrr.

Well I really wanted to know both. From what I gathered from here and google is this:

1) Slimline version doesn't play ANY PS2 games at all.
2) Slimline is region free only for games but not for DVDs and Bluerays. (technically it is but Blueray settings are tied down to your account or something)

righty oh! heres the crack... ps3 is region locked to ps2 and psone games only
meaning if you have a usa ps3 then you can only play usa psone and ps2 games
the ps3 is region free only on ps3 games.. I know this because i have a 60gb ps3
which plays psone and ps2 games..
The only 2 ps3's which plays psone and ps2 games are the 60gb and 80gb which
has card readers to the left of the console (flip door lifts up)
as for Xenogears & Xenosaga games I play them on my ps2

hope this helps...

oops forgot to add.... ps3 is bluray movies region locked

just buy it on PSN... it should be region less.

one more thing.... you can also switch to, I think its 8 regions via Debug setting on PS3 (note this is only available on Debug/Test Units and for Retail Units, you need to install the REBUG CFW that enables debug settings on Retail Consoles.), changing the region, you can play any region locked game(PS1 and PS2), dvd and blurays... etc....

All I can tell you is

However you can play those games, play them. They are absolutely fabulous. It's like watching an anime and playing it at the same time. The cutscene cinematics are beautiful and the storyline is rich and involving. It's probably one of my favorite Triologys aside from Prince of Persia and a few others.
