I flipped open the cover (of Sabriel) and read the first few chapters before I even looked at another book in the store. There was another book recently that was like that but I can't remember the name of it... I lent it to my little sis and haven't seen it since

It would be ridiculous to try and name all the books I cycle through, but I can say some of my favorite authors include Terry Brooks, Robert Goodkind, David and Leigh Eddings, Terry Pratchett, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, Garth Nix, Larry Niven, and Brian Jacques. That's only the tip of the iceberg though, because there are hundreds of books here. It would be far more proper for me to call reading a "way of life" instead of a "hobby". Reading opened my mind up in alot of ways as a child, and I'll always have love for it because of that. I'm seeing interesting preferences in books, which is always good, and many that I actually have.

TTBadguy, I totally feel you on that. My mom was a big reader so she encouraged it. Used to read while walking, always bumping into things (that's pretty dangerous though) and getting yelled at but somehow I just could not bring my self to put intersting books down. Started writing around the age of seven Still not epic at it though. I have read alot from most of the authors you listed but any particular recommendations? You know, like the book your life would not be complete if you had not read

When I was going through my emo stage, I read "My Grandfather's Blessings" by Rachel Naomi Remen. Its an inspirational book - if you're into those type of things...

I remember the days when I used to read while walking. I used to do it on the way to the grocery store, to the mall, to school, etc. I finally stopped because I started driving, plus audiobooks do nothing for me. As far as recommendations, I would say the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind definitely changed the way I thought about things. There are alot of good points about humanity throughout it, even with it being a fantasy series. It's also readable in the sense that it's not too heavy-handed. Another good series that I enjoyed is The Fire-Us Trilogy by Jennifer Armstrong and Nancy Butcher. It's about children having to survive in a post-apocalyptic world and how they eventually learn how things arrived to that point. I liked it because it did the opposite of what I expected: it's a very realistic approach to the idea but it's scary when you realize how young they are and what they've had to survive through. That's all I can think of for now but I'll post more as books, series and otherwise, pop into my head.

Fire-Us sounds cool. I'll browse that, thanks. Read the Sword of Truth series even watching legend of the seeker (yes, i know it's sucky adaptation) Frankly, I got bored while reading some parts, just to keep on & get rewarded with my patience. Liked it a lot, found Goodkind a lil too preachy but the xters were solid & he took time to disabuse some generic fantasy writing myths (final battle and so on)
