One book that I couldn't put down recently: Dust by Elizabeth Bear
It's definitely science fiction, with a lot of fiction for sure, but the author draws you right into it... I'm very picky about books that I will read. If I like it at all, I can't put it down. If I can put it down, I'll put it back on the store shelf and leave it ![]() On a broken ship orbiting a doomed sun, dwellers have grown complacent with their aging metal world. But when a serving girl frees a captive noblewoman, the old order is about to change.... [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] "Life is a riot!"

Thanks, Vanteya!
For those of you that like gothic books with a little bit of necromancy, there is a series of three that I was hooked on. Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen by Garth Nix. Sent to a boarding school in Ancelstierre as a young child, Sabriel has had little experience with the random power of Free Magic or the Dead who refuse to stay dead in the Old Kingdom. Yaddayaddayadda... I would recommend reading Lirael only after you've read Sabriel. Abhorsen was written so that you could understand it if you haven't read the first two. "Life is a riot!"
