5.) Play -
12-04-2011, 05:07 PM
"Why would I wear this?! Just imagine..."
"Oh I did."
She was gazing at me, holding a box.
"So you don't want it? Fine, I still have the quittance just in case." I answered.
"That's not the point here."
"What is, then? Am I prohibited to present you a dress?"
"No... It's just.. Fine! I'll keep it, but don't expect me to wear it!"
She put it away.
"Now, since it's my birthday, have you planned anything?"
"Like?"
"Like hell I know. That's why you are the one in charge."
I stood up and went for my cupboard.
Opening the drawer, I uttered "Yes, actually. We'll be doing this."
I put two tickets on the table.
She read "Ticket... free drink... theater... Distant voice..."
"You better dress up yourself nicely this evening." I said.
"So this dress was part of-"
"Exactly. It's a perfect chance to try it on."
"Of course it is - it's backless! Not only your lower body chose this, you also want me to freeze, don't you? How am I supposed to wear this? It's damn cold outside!"
"Right, madam, and you don't have a coat, do you?"
She stopped and took my tea cup.
"Alright, I'll be outside for a bit."
Waving me off.
I closed the balcony door and lighted up.
Wind was blowing and the sky was completely grayed out.
Slight rain fell.
Thinking "And it's only september..." while blowing out blue smoke into the cold air.
I looked at my watch.
The theater would begin at 7pm; five hours from now.
Staring at the nothingness in front of me, I let my thoughts have their way.
"I sure hope I chose the right play. There's champagne and aperitifs for free and I even booked a taxi for the way back..." I told myself.
"Oh well, guess I'll do some in favor of my income." throwing away the little smoking stick.
As I arrived at my workplace, I booted up my laptop and started on writing a document.
Schedule was next tuesday - plenty of time.
After a while, I heard it knocking on the door.
"Can you open it? I'm busy here." I called for her.
"On it."
A few moments later, she was back and tossed me an envelope.
I took a look at it and decided to postpone the subject to the next day.
"So," I turned to her.
Sitting on my couch, wearing jeans and a yellow shirt, lazing in front of the TV, she looked at me with expectant eyes.
"You think the dress is going to fit perfectly and you don't need to try it on?" I asked, grinning.
The expression on her face darkened like she was ready to kill me this instant.
Without a word she stood up, took the box from the table and inside the bathroom.
I continued writing the review I had started on and tried to focus on something else than what I was about to see.
Time passed - time which felt like an eternity to me.
I became anxious about the measurements and what I would do if it didn't fit her.
Noise could be heard.
"How... is it...?"
In front of me no longer stood the girl I had met.
"It's a little tight around my waist..."
I looked upwards.
She had put on a pair of white stockings which disappeared under the red hemline.
A black belt with a golden buckle was wrapped around her slender midriff, next to it a golden charm bracelet round her right wrist.
The dress wasn't too tight, rather did it fit perfectly.
Raising my eyes towards the cleavage, I lost my breath for a second.
"So?"
A necklace glittered between the silk straps.
I stuttered "It's..."
She turned around.
The usual white ornament was exchanged for a red ribbon with long ligaments.
"It's... uh..."
She stroke off her let-down hair to the left so I could see the back neckline.
Her fair skin matched the red silk like it had always been part of her.
The cleavage was risqué; it ended above the black belt.
"Beautiful." I spouted.
"I don't think I've ever witnessed such an elegant, young woman like you are."
She faced me, blushing.
"W-W-What are you saying, idiot?"
"I'm serious here. I... I believe it's the most beautiful, no, you are the most beautiful woman I've ever seen."
"So I'm good for the play tonight?"
"More like, the play is good for you." I replied.
"So, do you like it?"
"I guess..."
She went to a mirror and examined it herself.
"I guess I like it."
"Alright, now stay there for a second while I get to the final piece." I said and opened another drawer, pulling out a bag.
Without hestitating, I put a bolero jacket over her shoulders.
I buttoned it, embraced her.
"So? Are we good for the play tonight?"
She smiled.
"Nevertheless, I'd rather not dirten it before this evening so I'll change back, okay?"
"Yea, of course." I answered and loosened my grip.
She swung around and kissed me.
"Thank you."
She left the stage.
A bit dazzled, I moved back to the chair I had been sitting on before she came out.
Evening had come to the village.
I was dressing up myself making use of a newly bought, black shirt and my finest suit - combined with the hereditary watch my grandpa used to wear.
"It's almost six. We should be going, shouldn't we?"
I opened the door.
"Taxi's on the way milady."
The doorbell rang just as I had finished my phrase.
"Are we ready?"
"You bet I am, are you?" she asked while putting on her coat.
We left the house - it had stopped raining but the streets were still wet.
I gave the taxi driver the destination and we drove off.
Half an hour later, we arrived at the theater.
I took her hand as she stepped out of the cab and handed the driver the payment.
"Keep the change. Have a nice evening."
He nodded and went for the streets.
We went into the old building, left the jackets at the wardrobe.
"So, what'd you like? Champagne?"
"Eh, I'd rather not drink any. I'm not good with alcohol." she wavered.
"Ah come on, it's your birthday. I'll get it."
"Wait up, I'll accompany you."
Having arrived at the bar, I gave the coupons to the bartender and waited for him to fill the champagne classes.
He asked "A shot of orange juice for the lady?"
"Yes, please."
I turned to her, reaching out my right hand.
"Shall we, then?"
We took the glasses and went for the stage room.
"Your assigned seats are D14 and D15. Go all the way to the front, then turn left after the third passageway."
"Right, thanks." I answered the concierge.
The room was mildly illuminated and gave off a very elegant feel as we walked inside.
People were talking to each other in low voices, everyone wore a suit or a dress and expensive jewelry.
"Here we are"
I pointed to the aforementioned seats.
She sat down and took a sip.
The light slowly got turned down.
A conférencier appeared at the stage.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to greet you tonight..."
I was standing outside, smoking.
"This isn't half bad once in a while, I guess."
She stood next to me.
It had started to rain again.
"Once in a while, yes." I replied.
She then murmured: "Just those suits are annoying with their elitism."
I choked on the smoke inside my lung.
"You're one to talk wearing this."
I took the last drag and throw the cigarette away.
"Alright, there's some five minutes left until the pause is over. Do you want another drink?"
Sure, why not."
We passed the entrance door.
In the blink of an eye, everything was black.
"Wait, what?" I spouted.
"This can't be good." reaching for any part of her I could hold on to, grabbing her midriff.
A voice resounded from nowhere.
"Play, shall we?"
