I have to write an essay for a class on "Illegal Internet Downloading" MY thesis statement is "Illegal downloading, hurts many media companies."
It has to be at least 800 words in essay format.

Irony is almost killing me here.
But on a serious note is this a subjective paper or objective theme? Or you could go with a counter-intuitive theme like using such facts that are neither dis-provable or realistic. Such as " The number of pirates(actual boat ridden pirate) in the world is directly related to the Global warming effect. Because since early 1800's(industrial revolution time-frame) the amount of global warming has gone up whilst the number of Professional Pirates have gone down.
Or one of my originals, "Ninja's and penguins must be mortal enemies due to the fact you never see them in the same place at the same time." And since Penguins only steal your sanity and Ninja's want to steal your life that must create tension between the warring clans.

You need statistics to base your assertion on. I'm certain that the affected industries are happy to provide them to anyone who is interested. If you want some original research, and if you have time, contact trade organizations who lobby for those industries (music, software, movies/tv, etc.). They will steer you in the right direction. If you don't have time then search the internet for the same info.

Whether all the info you find is credible is another question entirely.

See - The brotherhood of Anime lovers (Otakus and such) have an Anime forum to TALK about Anime - and in order to do so we need to see 'said Anime' - someone else taped it off of TV - then added their own translations so I could understand it. THEN...they uploaded it and for NO Money or compensation ask us to view it so we could all engage in civil (or trolling) discourse about the subject manner - It's like saying "Hey!. what do you think of this??"

This is NO different than Me watching "HOUSE M.D." (Fox ) and then putting it on a video tape and saying "Did you see this?" to a trusted friend and then they erase it or record over it in a weeks time - Like people did in the 80's & 90's.

Yes, it hurts Media Companies....but then so does Obama's Tax & Spend Gov, Laziness in the Distribution Chain, Poor Marketing Strategy, and...get ready for it: "Market Saturation" - as in You would BUY more media if you could 'Preview it' or Get a Deal? or something 'Extra' for Buying it at a store....(like a Collectible? or coupon for something else). People buy DVD's (and especially BLU-Ray) cause of the "Extras" and trinkets that come with the physical item. It even works in 'Happy Meals' at McDonalds....Give people a REASON to Want More than what the can 'Share' or Download....till them The Media Companies will HURT Themselves!
