Cool For my Grandmother - 10-19-2010, 09:12 PM

Who just recently passed away, I was asked to be a pallbearer and I wrote something for after the eulogy. It was a poem, but I did not wish to put it inside the poetry thread as it didn't truly belong there in my opinion, so smack me if you wish. But here it is. I did not try to keep rhyme scheme up, only but loosely will you see it. You know what hurts probably worse then that? My birthday was the day before she died, so while I was having fun, I never went up to see her. I know I wouldn't have been able to do anything, but it still makes you feel stupid you didn't go up to say hi or hang out with them.

Farewell

To some you were a relative
To me you were a great friend
To some you were their everything
It hurts to see it end.

But when I think about you
Nothing I remember is sad
Only wonderful things you did
Stand out inside my head

From the holidays I spent as a kid
Our birthdays being a full day apart
To your Thanksgivings and Christmases that outdid
Those memories shall never depart.

So when I think about you faraway
I will refuse to be depressed or sad
I will simply recall those better days
So instead, I will smile and be glad

Glad that I spent time with you
Happy I came to know you well
My life is better because of you
I will carry that with me as my personal farewell.

I will always love you, Grandma. May God always watch over you.

I don't know when your Grandmother passed away but you have my sympathy's.
My Grandmother passed away last December after 12 years with an ever increasing degree of Alzheimer's. She raised me and was taken care of in my home until she died. She was one of my best friends, intelligent and an incredible poet. So your post reminded me of her. I remember when she saw one of my first computers back in the early eighties she wanted one too. How cool is that.

This. I never will. She was the best human being I knew. She was incapable of lying and would give the world everything she had. I can lie to people and I have, but to her, she is the only person I would have never lie too, nor did I, not even once.

And yeah, sounded cool dig. Thanks for the condolence.

Edit: She died one day after my birthday, and one day before hers, on the 17th.

Default Legend of the Savior Spirit (Poem) - 01-22-2011, 05:57 PM

Legend of the Savior Spirit

In this land legends are told, both of young and of old
Stories oft of faraway places, twisted as if they are in mazes
This however I would like to share, one about a special care
For those lost in space, and those of which travel to a slower pace

Guardian Angels some might say, to others mere folk tales
Of a being that saves lost souls and of which always prevails
A fairy one might see, though never to be sure of the shape
An entity full of love, waiting to rid the world of hate

She appears to those in their time of great need
She always assists them mentally, sewing a true seed
Of hope and courage that gives them the misplaced willpower
To outlast their circumstances to the minute and to the hour

"Live!" she says as she hopes desperately as if seeking an answer
To her your life is precious, never should you be such a chancer
"Continue Forth!" you hear the words as they pull you to your feet
As if drawn towards this incredible creature you would like to meet

Though sadly and as quickly as you've seen her, she'll vanish once more
Into the natural surroundings of stormswept lands and local folklore
So perhaps you will recall these words yourself when you're astray
Remember her legacy and continue to live on and carry out your stay.

Cool For my Grandfather - 01-23-2011, 07:46 PM

He just recently passed on. I figured I'd share the poem I will read at the eulogy with you. I knew after his wife of 60 years passed on before him, he'd be behind shortly. Being together that long must have all the impact in the world. Anyways, he was battling with strokes and declining health and just couldn't fight it any longer with a weak heart. I hope you are with her, my friend.

"Rest in Peace"

I'm happy for now you'll be free of pain
You leaving was our loss but heaven's gain
Some will grieve and that's just fine
But I will recall those of a fonder time

I'll miss those holidays we spent as it snows
After those fancy dinners, as we watched t.v. shows
I'll still remember all those pinochle games there
The happy memories I share are beyond compare

But we will forge on into life's great race
Even to those of us who travel at a slower pace
We'll live out our lives and we shall meet again
So this is never truly over, just one of many ends

So wherever you are, I hope you're happy now
For the legacy left on this earth somehow
We'll carry on the name, we'll last out the day
For My final words to you my friend, "Rest in peace," is all I can say.
