"They make a perfect couple... if you can call it that"
Genre: A romantic comedy filled with echii goodness.
Rating: 7/10
Episodes: 13 (~25 min each)
We all have bad days, we all get refused by dozen boys/girls. There’s nothing special about that, considering we spend most of the waking hours couped up in our basement/house/mansion/underground lair, like a good hikikomori should be. We all wake up one day to find that our right hand has been replaced with a living girl’s upper body. … Waaaaaiiit a second, what?
These last words perfectly describe what I thought about Midori no Hibi (Midori’s Days) when I watched the first episode.
As you might have guessed, there are two main characters in this story. First we have Seiji, who (as always) is a high school student with a reputation of being kick ass. Unfortunately, his reputation tends to make girls running screaming at the very sight of him (even though he usually fights bullies and scum like that). I must say, that having a nickname like “Mad Dog” and people calling his right hand “Devil’s Right Hand” doesn’t help the matter. Well, there you have it, he’s single and rather down about it. But not is all doom and glum. Enter Midori, a girl with green hair that secretly admires him, from afar.
After yet another girl turns him down, Seiji heads home and with the words that his right hand will be his only girlfriend he falls asleep. Upon waking up he finds that instead of his right hand he has Midori’s upper body. And that’s the start of the 12 episode adventure.
So what can I say about this series apart that the concept is outright weird. Wait, what am I saying? This is Japan – a country where national past time of middle aged men is seeing how far they can slide … on relatively young girls oiled bellies! I kid you not. Anything could happen. The story, as you can expect, revolves about Seiji trying to live a normal life, while trying to hide Midori’s existence and try to find a way to get her off his hand. But things don’t always go as planned. On the other hand, Midori is constantly trying to gain Seiji’s attention by, for example, sewing a t-shirt that has I <3 Seiji written on it. Seiji (of course) remains very ignorant of Midori’s feeling and seems to ignore the girls that actually like him and go for those who don’t. (I start to think it’s his blond hair) All this leads to fistful of funny moments.

"A typical day in the Samawura household."
The anime does great on the supporting characters. We have Osamu, who’s one of those over hyper, hapless people. He happens to idolise Seiji, so I guess you could consider him as Seiji’s posse (I guess). Then we have lovely class rep Takako, who doesn’t like Seiji until he saves her from a band of bullies. And of course we have Shuichi, who’s secretly obsessed with miniature hand worn girls dolls. Oh, how convenient. But let’s not forget Rin, Seiji’s big sister. Who, as any big loving sister, would steal his allowance (you see as a normal high schooler Seiji lives on his own), beat him up and show off her giant boobs. And since every respecting anime has a loli character, we have Shiori, who also happens to like Seiji. He’s a lucky guy, if he actually looked around a bit more.
There’s quite a bit of echii in this show. As you may expect it comes from Rin and Midori. She’s stuck on his hand, it’s a ticking echii bomb! But overall it’s not too bad, I certainly didn’t think, “oh noez not another echii driven scene/episode”. There’s actually quite a few really funny moments on the echii side.
The anime has a weird beginning, a nice middle with a good mix of character developement, slapstick, echii and romance, all thrown into one big pot that is Midori no Hibi and it has a good ending, I actually quite liked the ending. There were dozen retarded ways it could have ended, considering the premise of the show but they went and ended it perfectly.
The art and character design are spot on, really. I can’t fault it anywhere, neither can I say “omg”. Same goes for the sound as well. It’s there, it’s good but hardly worth any special praise.
Language watched in: Japanese
Summary: Great anime, once again it’s light on the story but great for the entertaining value. It has a strong beginning, the middle and the end. And it’s a show with a girl being a guy’s hand. Japan, you done it again!
