Mobile Suit Gundam SEED
Kidou Senshi Gundamu SHIIDO :3
Studio: Sunrise
Genre: Mecha
Number of episodes: 50
Gundam SEED being one of the first anime that I got one of those "magical moments", you know goosebumps and the sensation of hoovering a couple of inches above your chair. This series is could also be one of the most disliked or even hated Gundam animes so far. I disagree with that.
In the Gundam SEED universe humanity is divided. This due to big breakthroughs in gene engineering which also has been used on a large population of humans. People with altered genes are now called Coordinators and non-altered are called Naturals.
The story setting is very Gundamish. Naturals/Earth Alliance being the good, but not really, guys versus ZAFT/Coordinators whom are supposed to be the bad guys, but then really ain't. This meaning there ain't a clear defining line between them. This plays on the thought to who is the real enemy. Humanity herself perhaps? Both sides believe strongly in that they fight for the right cause. But in the end it is just a big political mess and a inescapable trap and the only way out seems to be full out war.
This being a Gundam series there is of course a blond, mask wearing man that seems to like kids a little too much and you really have a hard time to figure out what he is plotting. Except for a little ass-rape.
I like insecure teenage boys.
Our heroes then is thrown right into the middle of all this and proclaiming their selves as neutrals and try to end the futile war that should not be. Using tactics similar to guerilla warfare. This putting alot of stress on their crew, which seems to be filled with teenagers with very immature attitude. Fan service, but bad idea for war. But then again, it's Gundam.
There is also one of these Idols that seems to pop up in every single mecha series that span over 25 episodes. Which in a strange way seems to always have a big political influence just because of her big boobs and good singing voice. An element I find irritating and unrealistic. But then again, it's from Japan.
Being made by Sunrise the animations is all very well made and very colourful, but after a couple of episodes it is easy to see which scenes that will be re-used over and over again throughout the series. A bummer, but common within the anime scene. But you will a lot of boobies bounce. :3 The fighting scenes are good, but there are a few of them that is nothing short of awesomesauce.
Music wise it is filled to the brink with sleazy J-pop and ballads. Some of them actually being pretty decent. One song or rather one intro is effectively used when the hero is about to do some awesome shit. Which always gives me goosebumps.
They also change Gundam's as often as they change clothes in this series. Which is awesome sauce. It's a Gundam free for all! Almost.
It's hard for me to be critical to this series, but the things I don't like is quite easy to figure out. All in all it is a really good anime filled with political and human criticism. But also about friendship, love, self-identification and other teenager problems. The follow up called Gundam SEED Destiny is in my opinion quality wise as good as SEED. Maybe even a little bit better.
So for you people that haven't seen it yet, now you have at least 100 new episodes of anime to watch.
