The story revolves around four characters, hence the Quartet name; Akina (a Human with the power of "Tuning" Youkai back to their world), Hime (A dragon reborn, as they call her), Ao (a satori user, basically a psychic), and Kotoha (a Kotodama user, basically a magician who can materialize what they call out). They all work together in running an office called the Hiizumi Life Counseling Center, where their job is to help and protect and enforce the laws between Youkai and Human beings. Sakurashin is the setting for the story, and the only town in the world where humans and youkai can co-exist peacefully. The town is protected by a barrier created by the spiritual sakura trees known as the "Nana-Gou" or Seven Pillars. The Seven Pillars exist in both the human world and the youkai world and is effectively the only link between the worlds. However, not is all well in this town - incidents have occurred and someone has threatened the safety of their town. It is up to the four of them to decipher the problem and head it off before it can get destroy their beloved city.
Story rated a 6/10
As far as shonen action series go, it was middle of the road for me. There was a good amount of translation errors from manga to anime (as I read it after I finished it to see what I missed) and that ended up dropping my rating a couple points. There were redeeming factors though, that allowed me to enjoy the anime more so then the manga. For instance, the artwork and character designs were illustrated well, so I had to do some back checking. Turns out they were illustrated and done by the same person who is responsible for DRRR!!!! - heck, even Kyousuke in the series is voiced over by Shizuo Heiwajima's seiyuu and he has the same tendencies - to rip things out of the ground to use as weapons - to which I smiled at.
Animation rated a solid 7/10 for me.
As far as voice acting talent and characters goes, they housed an A list of Seiyuus in my opinion, ranging from Hime's voice actress (Yin from Darker Than Black) to Kotoha's voice actress (Shinku from Rozen Maiden, Lag Seeing from Tegami Bachi). I already mentioned they had Shizuo's voice actor as well for Kyousuke. Everyone played their roles pretty good, and it's never bad having a Tsundere main female role. Even the supporting characters I wanted to see more of, but alas - a 12 episode series just isn't enough time for everyone to share the spotlight. The rest of the cast is worth mentioning as well, but that would take up another paragraph. Suffice it to say, they had a good casting agent and I can honestly say I don't think I disliked a single character in the show, which is odd for me.
As for music and background music in the show, I was intrigued to hear an English singer singing their background fight music (though it may have been Engrish, but I thought it was pretty clear). Although it seemed weird at first, it actually kind of grew on me. While I won't rate their soundtrack the best I've ever heard,
I'd score it a 6/10 on music/sound. The opening wasn't my style and didn't accurately set the tone, but I really fell in love with the ending theme for some reason. It was very mellow and just showed their daily activities, and I think I enjoyed that because in the show, that is what they are trying to protect.
Language Watched in: Japanese with English Subtitles
Format Watched in: MKV 720p. Looked pretty decent.
Quick Summary and Writer's notes: A good time waster, as it has decent action and character interaction - and some of their superpowers are pretty cool. Although it's nothing to write home about, it was a good watch for only 12 episodes, though I felt they could have did more with the series - two arcs, or lengthened it.. but oh well. Side Note: If you enjoyed the show a little, I suggest reading the manga - there were a lot more details and things done differently. I hope this review was decent, one of the first I've did in ages.
