Try for Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Or the classics that are impossible for anyone to hate: Trigun, Cowboy Bebop.

In my opinion one of the most adult oriented anime is Ghost in the Shell. If you really want to confuse him try episode 15.
You should take my word for it since I am undoubtedly one, if not the oldest members on this site.
