There's a bunch of anime discussion threads. Try to have a look at one of those if they have the plot, art, characters, setting, time or whatever might fancy you. Since we all have different opinions and such. My recommendation would be something like:

Spice and Wolf
Code Geass
Fate/Stay Night
Bakemonogatari
Darker Than Black
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood
Kimi Ni Todoke
Needless
Nyan Koi
Toaru Kagaku No Railgun
Chrome Shelled Regios
Black Lagoon

... You can see where i'm going, this is just my personal preference of decent anime, and that list is nowhere near complete from what i can suggest, this is just what was on the top of my head, since there's plenty more. ^_^
