Default G.I.T.S. all inclusive - 06-07-2010, 04:15 AM

Sorry if there's already a Ghost in the Shell thread. I tried searching but couldn't find any.

Just recently watched the original film (1995), SAC, and am starting on 2nd GIG. I wish I watched the movie before SAC, since a few of the background elements are explained. Despite that, GITS is one of the better shows I've discovered.

Something I noticed that was pleasant was that it doesn't waste too much time on developing the history of the characters, but rather show the viewers who they are through their actions. Also, though each individual have their unique personality, they're all devoted towards their common goal of policework. The teamwork of the org is pretty damn badass!

I was kinda lost in the politics though, since I don't have a very solid political/business background that is a very big theme throughout the central plot in SAC. Maybe that's why the whole Laughing Man story didn't hold my interest as much as some of the SA episodes. Don't get me wrong though, because I totally love the internal development with Section9 that co-occurred with the Complex episodes. However, the philosophical questions that are raised, something that's more emphasized in the '95 movie, are much cooler to think about than politics. From the brief introduction I read about 2nd GIG (individual/dividual, it should more heavily employ philosophical themes. I'm looking forward to it!

My favorite char/chars would be the Tachikomas, because they're so funny/cute/multi-functional <3.

Their discussion on existence and life was very unexpected. The plot of their reintroduction to the team and the Major's renewed approval of their status was like "yay!" for me. Interestingly, this plot has similarities with the '95 movie. I'm referring to the Major's explanation of picking Togusa for Section 9.

This little video reminds me to state the awesomeness of the music!

Anyway, I've yet to finish the series, so please remember (for others' sake too) to use spoiler tags when talking about specific plot, especially from Innocence (movie), 2nd GIG, and Solid State Society (movie) that follows. Thanks!

Oh and if you haven't watched any, I recommend. You can grab a it from THORA/OCZ. Also, I recommend the '95 ver. of the movie over the '08 remake.

If you've seen it already, discuss!

One thing that amazed me most in this anime is they dubbed it into English very well. Love the Tachikomas XD.

yes this anime is one of the few that i actually prefer to watch in the dubed state.....sadly not all of the english speaking actor(es) are fit for some of the rolls that they are chosen for. But yes this is a great series one that a buddy bought and i borrowed and i was like wtf this is great...but we also sat there and watched the 2 seasons back to back ...... needless to say MT Dew and pizza played their roll there. And yes u must watch this series in correct order to be able to follow it at all.
