Default Anime That Takes Place Before The 1970's - 04-08-2010, 06:59 PM

I'm looking for anime that takes place before the 1970's. This does not mean anime made before the 70's, just anime that has a setting in any time before the 70's. For example Senkou no Night Raid just came out, and yet it takes place in 1931. This is what i am looking for, so it could be anywhere from 1970 to 1400 B.C. for all i care.

Grave of the Fireflies. I don't think you'll find one any better. Roger Ebert even said it's one of the 10 greatest war films ever made.

Baccano!, Berserk, Atama Yama, Kino's Journey, Mushishi, most Miyazaki movies.

It you read manga I would suggest 20th Century Boys, which spends quite a bit of it's storyline in the period of 1967-1970.

inuyasha takes place after the 70s, in the real world with beyond the well it is the present but in the other world you can say it was before, since it mostly takes part there

D.Gray-man. I think it's time period is late 1800's. Or very early 1900's.

Oh, and why before 1970's? Why not like 1950's? Or 80's?

...I'm surprised no one mentioned Sword of the Stranger.

well i don't think that ive ever really seen an anime that takes place in the 70's or 80's(maybe i have and just dont remember), so i decided to pick before the 70's because it seems like the 50's and 60's are easily recognizable along with times even earlier than that. Also i seem to think that anime based in older times seem to have better stories.
