I recently started watching Saikano, holy shit is it amazing. It's one of the most heartbreaking, poignant, and cathartic anime I've ever seen, and I'm not even done yet.

I used to own the import of this but I lost it so I went out and bough the offical boxset and OVA. This series is really good.

That anime left me totally speachless, it was all that you mentioned up and one that kept me thinking about it again and again for some time after I was done watching.

I remember seeing this on a top 50 list a few years ago. I've wanted to watch it, but have never found it in good quality. I made the mistake of trying to watch it in the crap avi's I had and I'm pretty sure it took five years off my life.

Ya, the perma-blush art style was a little annoying, but the series was very good. Pretty depressing, but very good.

I really like this story. It is heartbreaking, and the OVA isn't exactly lighthearted either.
If you're looking for comedy, or just light tragedy look elsewere (this isn't exactly light by any means)..
