Default Best of the Classics - 02-09-2010, 10:34 AM

I just thought it would be nice to list some of the older anime, year 2000 or older, that were particularly memorable or worth watching. A few of these titles I've only recently discovered as they date back before I started watching anime. Here is a short list just to get started:

Cardcaptor Sakura
Vandread
The Vision of Escaflowne
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Magic Knight Rayerth
Berserk
Blue Seed
Cowboy Bebop
Trigun
Slayers

Best of the classics: "Vandread", "Blue seed", "Rayerth", "slayers".

I was expecting things like legend of the galactic heroes, and i bum into these... The others are great animes at least, although I don't know if they can be considered as classics yet in some cases.

My first was Sailor Moon, I loved them "trasforming". What else would you expect from a curios little boy.

Well classic is a misleading term as it's influenced by my personal preferences, but I can't very well recommend an anime I dislike or haven't seen. I don't care for drama that much, nor do I care to judge anime by the same standards as literature or film. I believe that anime should be foremost fun to watch so I'll rate a comedy such as Vandread or Slayers higher than say Akira or Fist of the North Star.

Incidentally, I haven't gotten around to watching Legend of the Galactic Heroes yet. Between the episodes (I think they're 110) and all the movies that's a major if daunting undertaking.

1. Evangelion <- My All-time Favorite

2. Maison Ikkoku

3. "World Masterpiece Theater" Series

4. Astroboy <- My First Ever Anime

5. Lupin III <- It's a shame I didn't see all episodes
