I personally haven't watched Clannad but I don't really think anime of that genre can considered to be one of the best of the decade. I think an amazing anime is one that can incorporate everything in its series, and its done well.

For example, FMA (just a tad bias obv). It has everything an anime needs, and should satisfy all, if not most, people that watch anime. There's action, there's drama, there's romance (slight, but it's present), it has moe, there's characters you love, there's characters you hate, there's a mystery, there's a storyline (epic if I might add), there's emotion, there's plot, the story is deep [(FMA, aside from it being epic (imo obviously) speaks volumes about humanity as it is and was)] and more. Above all else, it's an anime that I would recommend for anyone, especially for people newer to the anime scene. An epic anime should be an anime that can attract a variety of viewers. I would not recommend CLANNAD to those that are looking for bloodlust and shounen. However I could recommend FMA to those that are looking for comedy/romance/slice of life (think deep).

Okay I might be exaggerating on how deep FMA really is; you can definitely read more into it though, it's not just another story.

I may have just stepped over the boundary or whatever, since I'm not a veteran watcher like most people. I may have missed on the definition of "epic" but my definition on epic is as good as anyone's, it's my opinion!

FMA:B NEW EPISODE TOMORROW!

Oh btw, FMA is the only manga based anime I know of that went off a tangent and was still epic; in a sense, the best filler ever?! Furthermore, they even decided to go back and redo the entire series to make it follow the manga, and now it's even MORE epic! Lastly, you can't spell Winry without "win"!

I like to justify FMA because I liked it so.

Well if your judging Clannad after the first season than that's reasonable, I never even finished the first season. But after watching the entirety of After Story, I see it in a new light.
