How many different version of Dragon ball Z are there?

DBZ
DBZ Kai

Was there also a remake for DBZ? I recently randomly watched a few eps of DBZ (not kai) and I don't recall the music being like what it was. Were there changes between the TV and DVD?

Or maybe its just me. Been ages since I watched DBZ

One in my opinion the original, i dont know how many others are out there though...
In my opinion the Dragonball franchise is like Starwars they need to just leave it alone...

DBZ has had tons and tons of different editions released throughout the years. The Remastered DVD's tend to use the Japanese music as default.

DB Kai is basically a condensed version of DBZ that took out fillers and has some redrawn scenes to make the show more HD-like.

I streamed ep 79 randomly (just happens to be the ep where Gohan gets mad at Freeza xD). Checked several sites and yea, I saw it for myself.

This one I suppose is the remastered with crappy music I'm guessing - [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

And this is the original except with poor quality - [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I thought so, I don't remember the music not fitting that badly in the series.

edit - Or it could be that there is one before the one I mentioned in the first link. Actually I'm positive. shesh.

As Dark said there are many different versions that have been released through the years. However you specifically mentioned different music.

Although there can be different music scores with the re-released and remastered editions that have been cranked out over the years. There can also be differences in both music and story line even with in the same release. This is most often caused by changes made to accommodate the various companies that have licensed the show for a given country and/or region.

This has been going on since anime first made it's way out of Japan as far back as Astro Boy. Even going so far as changing the entire plot of a show. The changes that turned Gatchaman into Battle Of The Planets is a good example.

This is especially true with DBZ. It was after all the most watched animation for years. As well as the most popular anime manga of all time. That means every time they can re-released it, even with subtle changes, they rake in money.

I've always like the English dubbed version of DBZ with the Funimation type OST. The Japanese version OST sucks and the characters sounded annoying.

The best is the uncut version

^Not just dubbed but it has to have the Funimation music. I noticed Kai airing on TV and it has the Japanese version OST. To be honest, even if the characters sounded good, the OST sucked so hard, I almost broke the damn TV. I felt like I was listening to 1930's Mikey Mouse music.

I don't know what the Japanese OST sounds like, but for sure, the Funimation music was definitely boss.

The original series is way better than the remastered series. The original funimation voices and the music were top notch compared to the remastered version. Also some content which was present in the original series was removed in the remastered version..

I heard the Japanese audio which is ok but DBZ looks awesome with funimation audio

DBZ is older than most people think. GT ended in 96, so that just goes to show how old DBZ actually was. They couldn't use the Jap music because it seemed too old sounding and wouldn't appeal to an American audience. DBZ is one of those rare cases where the Eng dub trumps the Jap. That being said, the GT Jap opening was fucking awesome. The American version sucked balls. Anyone that liked it can go to hell.

^I must agree with that. GT's ost sucked so hard, I almost had to bash my head against the wall. Funimation started becoming fags when that happened. Still, it was Japanese version ost and VA's or Funimation ost and VA's.

To each their own but original English opening kinda sucked hard. The only thing it's good is for reminiscing about the good old days.

I never watched Kai, because I couldn't get used to Goku's Japanese voice, but I don't remember the OST being sucky in the original.

I believe it was during the Saiyan Saga that they switched VA. DBZ was actually cancelled but then was revived and that's when they switched up the OST and the VA's.

Chris Sabat had dubbed for Vegeta in the funimation release which is the best..I think he is the VA for Vegeta from saiyan arc onwards
