Just because it's going to be produced in America doesn't mean it's automatically bad.
I wonder if they will really use Zac Eff in this film, though... It's pretty hard to picture him in Light's shoes. He'd have to improve his acting skills if he tries too.

I just hope it doesn't turn out like DB Evolution. x_x

There was also a chance of a live action version of Full Metal Panic with Zac, but that apparently fell through. Hopefully this will happen to this too. There's enough people making anime look bad already >.>

Well, he looks a lot more like Light than the one from the Japanese Death Note movie. Which is probably because anime characters never look Japanese.

But his looks are the only thing that are kind of similiar to Light.
Seriously, I don't like to judge films before trailers are released,
but seeing some High School Musical Gaylord trying to act Light will probably make me cry. Kind of hard to imagine an evil laughing Zac Efron.

While I don't particularly want to see an American remake of Death Note, it's obvious it is still on the horizon, because when something makes money Hollywood must jump in and do it their way. If we have to have one, I don't really have a problem with Zac Efron playing Light, because, well, he fits the bill as far as looks go. Acting may be a different story, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

At any rate, if you're dreading the film you may get some relief in Efron's recent comments that the film is not coming anytime soon. ANN reports that he was speaking to Collider.com when the topic of the Death Note film was raised. Efron was quoted as saying:

I love Death Note, and we were, kind of, working on it right now. You know, it's not…it's definitely not something that would be coming up soon. [Turns to Me and Orson Welles director Richard Linklater] What's the classic answer, Rick? 'It's not on the front burner.' No, no, it's something that was … I feel like, regardless of whatever I say, it's going to be [interpreted by the media to be] my next movie. No, it's not. It was an idea. Who knows? I had a meeting on it."
