Natsu no Arashi! Akinai-chuu

Production Company: SHAFT
Release Date: October 4, 2009
Episodes: 13?
Potential Subs: Licensed by Crunchyroll
The first season was quite entertaining while at the same time being serious for whenever the characters needed to be. The first season basically establishes the backgrounds for the majority of the main cast and brings all the necessary elements to present day. Now what this second season could play out to be is one of two options. First, it can continue its episodal style story telling in which a new mini story is told in one or two episodes. Second, it can make a huge plot using the already established characters to bring out a story of epic proportions. I’ve got bets it’s probably going to be the former. But in any case, it was an interesting watch and we’ll see what they can do with this show. As a note, for those who haven’t seen the first season, the character designs are quite similar to the older animation styles i.e., 1980s? But even so, it’s animated in present day standards and there is some influence of modern character design (in the female characters at least) so that it’s not that terrible to watch. I mean, I sat through the first season and I’m not particularly fond of the old style…

Production Company: Studio Pierrot
Release Date: October 3, 2009
Episodes: 13
Potential Subs: Licensed by Crunchyroll
Don’t let the children in the image above deceive you, nor the underlying concept of this being related to delivering letters. This show promises action as there is much conflict in the land of AmberGround. Letter Bees are essentially messenger carriers however giant insects are these postal service members’ greatest enemies. In order to deliver their packages successfully, Letter Bees employ partners who act as bodyguards. An OVA was released in 2008 (here
http://www.animetake.com/letter-bee-ova/) and shows some of the potential this show has. It is a shounen type show but whatever, I’m not complaining, since it’s being aired worldwide EXCEPT for Japan...o_O?

Production Company: Production I.G.
Release Date: October 6, 2009
Episodes: 12
Potential Subs: Mamiko, Frostii?, Formula?
I’ve been a fan of Production I.G. ever since I first stepped into the realm of anime. I have yet to be disappointed however this show is drastically different from what I usually find from them. This is a romance style anime (not for everyone) but it follows an interesting cast of characters. Apparently the manga has been really successful (probably why it’s getting an anime) but I’m sure it can speak to a lot of people out there. For those of you more interested in relationships, this is probably the anime for you this season.

F*CK YES. BONES? F*CK YES. DARKER THAN BLACK SECOND SEASON? F*CK YESSSSSSS. Can I express my delight in any other way? The promos have been subbed by yours truly and weika from AT. Give that guy some props XD In any case, this is a continuation two years after the previous season left off. Hei is on the run with Yin and they meet a girl named Suou in Russia. And what do you know, they all get involved with the Syndicate and the Contractors i.e., kick arse plot and action. Oh don’t forget Misaki Kirihara, that cop chick with the tied up hair and oval glasses. Misaki quit the force and started investigating on her own which leads to the obvious problem of…MOAR KICK ARSE ACTION! This second season seems to draw more attention towards the new cast of character especially Suou which may or may not please the fanbase that DtB has established. Nonetheless, my fellow AnimeTakers, persevere and we shall be rewarded for the release date draws near! Soon, my allies, we will drug ourselves up on the addicting substance that is Darker than BLACK! Music is by Stereopony and Abingdon Boys. Stereopony’s song is called Tsukiakari no Michishirube…a tribute to Rie Fu’s Tsukiakari which was the ending song for the first season? Who cares…DARKER THAN BLACK IS BACK!!!
Anticipation: 10/10 (F*CK YES)

Dragon hunting anyone? That’s what the guy in the picture above is doing. He also meets some girl and invites her into her guild after a bit of trouble. Together they complete tasks required by the guild and so the story goes…Simple premise but of course a lot of potential especially if the characters can be built well. Oh, and did I mention action? Another shounen type anime so you can expect some adrenaline pumping action in this series as well. There seems to be huge support from the fansubbing community so maybe this show will turn out better than “generic”. Let’s hope so XD

Production Company: Manglobe Inc.
Release Date: October 3, 2009
Episodes: 12
Potential Subs: imuR88?, Saikyo Fansubs, Nuke Fansubs, Koharubi, Solstice, AnimeYoshi
Knights have been traditionally males. But in Seiken no Blacksmith, the female lead is just the opposite a female knight who seeks to restore a sword passed down to her from her father. Seeking a blacksmith she encounters one who seems to know dark powers and even defeats a ruffian using these taboo abilities. And so the story begins…My RPG senses are tingling. There doesn’t seem to be much about the manga but in any case, some big guy at Manglobe thought that there was a reason to make this into an anime. Hopefully it can pull some good plot and character development along with some action, once again, hopefully.
Anticipation: 5/10
Buny Subs: Koharubi, AnimeYoshi
This is technically the end of the Phuzy-List for the new shows airing this upcoming season, but due to a certain message from a certain individual on my profile (*cough*WEIKA*cough*) I must make note of a particular anime that will definitely please many of you.
Cencoroll
This is a 30 minute movie which first aired July 28, 2009 in Canada at the Fantasia International Film Festival. The official site can be found
here. So some guy was raising a beast of a thing called a Cenco. This monster turns up in the city and obviously the police and military want it somewhere else, somewhere between a rocket and a hard place. Then some other guy shows up with another Cenco and some crazy arse fighting breaks out. 30 mins to build up some real action, this looks like a real adrenaline pumper although I wouldn’t really want to call it a movie. Only trailers are available for now but the DVD comes out October 28, 2009 and you can expect rips and subs to follow soon after. I first came across this while uploading the supercell single, Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari. Supercell actually contributed a song to this movie. There weika, happy?!
And thus concludes the Phuzy-List for Fall 09. Yes, it was quite lengthy and I am glad you have made it thus far. Hopefully these shows will not disappoint both you and I and let’s pray that this season plays out well. Then again, with DtB2 on the list, this season will be awesome regardless XD I hope you enjoyed this installment of Phuzy-List! Happy anime-ing!
