Default Slice of Life Fans - 09-25-2009, 09:56 PM

This is the end :3

Why do people like Slice of Life series? They normally have no purpose or deep meaning. Watching a normal life seems a bit more sad than living your own. If you like slice of life, do you like watching western reality TV shows? It is about the same a lot of the time, but one is animated and the other is a bit more real just because of the setting (still fake - come on).

Kara no Kyoukai made me want to stop floating and fly <3. Before that, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann showed me that there is beauty in struggling till the bitter end. I love that kind of stuff.

What has slice of life taught me? You can start a girl rock band and chase your dreams, but you'll definitely never be better than the rest of the bands? As long as the group has fun their performances sound good? THAT IS A SHOW THAT FLOATS. NO FLYING AT ALL. Feel free to state why you like the genre or not, but I don't feel anything watching them and plenty of my average shows came from this genre - I just kept watching because I had nothing better to do, but no more.

the best slice of life series ive seen has to be Clannad.....most likely cuz it was a bunch of high school kids and i was in high school.....granted things never really work out that way but it was still really good.

Another good intelligent discussion started. I'll try and explain it to you from my point of view, because I enjoy the genre, most of the time anyway.

When you're watching shows like TTGL, they are amazing and really fun to watch, but can it really be related to your own life? I'm not going to gain spiral energy and drill through the earth tomorrow. When it comes to slice of life, you feel you can really connect with the characters and share their feelings, as due to the realistic setting you can understand them better. They often delve more into the characters personalities and you can end up being quite attached to the characters. But don't get me wrong, I'm talking about the GOOD ones. There are some really shit ones out there also. Harem ones tend to be bad 90% of the time due to bad endings.

Good Slice of life:
Toradora!
Itazura na Kiss (especially good for me, seen as it followed the characters through to my age and beyond, and I'm training to become a doctor like one of the characters in it )
Beck
Skip Beat!

Well there ya go.
