Really, whomever wrote the caption for Code Geass is the worst writter ever. They make it sound like the most stereotypical and boring story around. And yet thanks to a certain mpg of Kallan punching the hell out of Suzuka, I finally got down to watching it. And it is one of the best anime's that I have ever seen. Nevermind the excellent graphics and all the eye candy, the story is simply shocking. I'm left wondering why I haven't watched it sooner, and hopeing that it won't take too long to see another anime as good as it again. The only thing that isn't very-well done for this anime (and it does it really well), is personality portrayal. Where characters say lines that don't forward the plot but do communicate their personality. Most studios sacrifice this in order to save on the production costs of voice actors. There are also character numbers and the constraints of episode length that contribute to this as well.

But Damn, excellent anime.

Exactly what I was thinking! If it wasn't for that awesome sig, I would have never looked twice at Geass... Of course, because of the absurdly horrible captions or whatever on animenfo and the likes.

I think the first season, up to ep 22 or something like that is perfect. After that the anime changes into a super power mecha one, in which nothing is ridiculous enough for not showing it, where most of the strategic fights change into a super mecha vs super mecha, with episode endings that even if were surprising most of time didn't make any sense, etc...
Trully r2 story is mostly trash, with a few glorious moments in the middle, while most of season 1 is amazing. What kind of confused this is that while s1 final episodes aren't that good, r2's last episode is for me the best ending ever seen in an anime series. But that's not enough to forget that most of r2's story was a joke.

But even so, not everything about r2 was bad, and it still has many of the best things of season 1, enough to make it more than worth watching. The characters and va are great as usual, the animation was very good, the fights even when not nearly as good as season 1 were still nice, the ost is worth of mentioning, and most important of all, the direction once again was glorious, making the episodes in a way that would make us feel like "no fucking way" at the end of every episode.

Sorry to hear that about R2... especially since I can barely stand mecha in the first place. I don't know why but as soon as I notice 'mecha' in the category I generally ignore everything else. S1 so far has a story that I just can't stop watching... I guess I'll see what is in store before long. :s

Oh and my favorite aspect of code geass was that Every Episode Had something that moved the plot forward. Their was no such a thing as a filler episode. And back then when it was still airing- I cant think of a another anime I anticipated to watch more than Geass every week. Given CG had comedy,drama,tragedy,mecha,action and moe It was like a buffet of delicious goodness.

Just a few things I wanna complain about CG. WTF with Euphie turned into a mass murderer?? Damn! Duh... Season 1 is excellent, but many people said that R2 was a trainwreck. But still, it got voted as the best of 2008 by some online poll. CG combines almost everything in it. Mecha, science-fiction, drama, philosophy, Bishie character, good music, bla, bla.... Maybe that's why it was so popular. But I don't think CG R2 deserve to be dubbed the best. It was good, but something is missing from it... I dunno how to explain it, but that's only my opinion...

i feel the same way, it had its good point though but what i wanna know is how can they bring Cornellia back and no Euphie. even at the end of R2 they didnt kill Lelouch off so whats the deal with Euphie???
