Dont get me wrong, I dont favor epic anime over other genres such as romance or comedies, Ill watch "The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya" no prob. Im just saying there are WAY too many of those and less epic shows such as "Code Geass", "Gurren Lagann" .....etc. I need a balance. Anyone else feel this way? Or am I just missing out on all the new epic shows?
I believe this is all about preferences.

For example Code Geass, while may be enjoyable to watch for a newcomer to thrilling anime genre, is actually very inspired from Gundam Seed and Death Note. So much that for those who watched both these throughly, it is not that good.

What imo, defines epic is solely ourselves for ourselves if you know what I mean. There are some who defines Spice and Wolf for example, one of the recent anime series. There are some who finds Darker than Black epic. I'm excluding the Naruto Bleach One Piece fans.

Anyway, I believe it strongly depends on personal taste.

I agree with the OP. I haven't found one recently that just begged for a marathon.

More more scarce "Epic" anime is, the more you'll appreciate it.

That's very, very true. But at the same time, I wouldn't mind having more to appreciate, heh.

Bad jokes aside, this epicness you are in search of, doesn't taste vary? And in my opinion Tatakau Shisho, Baccano, Darker Than Black some of the short epic series I watched recently. And I personally can't really categorize anything as epic if it isn't finished, even though I at some times feel like doing it, but then a filler comes along and rips it to pieces. For this coming season I've no fucking clue.
^I agreed with this
