New Animes... depends if they have predecessors, if not.. give it 2-5 eps.. you'll get hooked before you know it.. if not, then it's not for you.. skip it for a later time..
Old Animes... too many reviews = potentially hazardous.. if not, rough diamonds..

definitely old anime rules! But, can't be too old like Kimba the White Lion.

I'd go with Kenshin. Old animes to me seem to be have better character design, and story lines. The artwork seems more original and though the graphics aren't as good as today's, the storyline make up for them.

It all depends on what you call "old animes". For me old is before the 90's animes. The reason is that in general there is a BIG change in anime in the 90's, mostly conserning direction.

Personally I think that new animes are WAY better than old ones. The reason is simple, the production values are in complete diferent levels. Animation, music, art, va, and most important of all, the direction. The scenes that are cut suddenly and in the middle of nowhere, the music that stops suddenly in a high pitch, the lack of ideas for picking good positioning of the camera, the horrible voices that take all the emotion away... These and many other similar things in the end ruins all the experience, no matter how good the story is.

And now as for the story and the characters, there has been also an important improvement in the qualities of these (dragon ball back in the year was epic, the same anime with todays production would be a failure). But that's only in a general view, since there are a few names like legend of the galactic heroes that have better story and characters than the great majority of todays animes. But that's picking the best of old classic against the normal to bad ones... best olds vs best new isn't even a fight.

DOn't you ever ignore old anime. Tell me, what is the best new anime? Can they match the best anime of the past decade, Neon Genesis Evangelion? Tell me. I think no other anime can challenge EVA. Although EVA did not have a graphic like these days, it's still dubbed as the best. Forget the graphic or whatever, storyline is the most important.
