Default Brodcasting Anime 720p vs 1080p - 02-02-2012, 04:40 AM

Hey everyone.I just wanted to open this topic because most anime nowdays are getting 1080p release which ofcourse are huge in terms of memory lol. So anyways here's my question. Is it worth downloading 1080p or is it better to go the 1080p route? And is there difference between the two marginal or quite big! I'm stuck on deciding if I should get 1080p for naruto and bleach. Anyways thanks in advance. Cheers

well, i dont really care too much about the difference between them. To me they both look the same. Then again i am watching them on my laptop monitor so if you have your computer connected to an hd tv then it might make a difference.

If your computer can handle it, if space isn't an issue, and if you watch it on a large high quality TV, then go for the 1080p. If you're just gonna watch it on a computer/laptop screen, if space is an issue, or if your computer can't keep up with playing back 1080p, get the 720p version.

I watch it on a 40" TV and I sit about 2 ft away from the screen. 720p is fine for me. I don't feel like wasting the extra space and practically maxing out my cpu to playback the 1080p version (old comp ftl.). You can notice a difference between the 2 qualities, but it's not like going from 360/480 to 720.

A couple people I know mentioned that when watching it on TV, it (1080p) looks like a choppy upscale. I haven't tried it myself though, I'm just going by what some people elsewhere have said. Personally, Id stick with 720p unless you absolutely must have 1080p. In which case, simply wait for the BD's to come out

If you're talking about the crunchyroll rips, they're not worth it, those 1080p vids are just upscales of the usual 720p and like Darkchao said, they're not very good upscales to begin with.
As far as I'm aware no anime broadcasts in 1080p, or at the very least, no raw provider is ripping broadcasts in 1080p. Some shows are even still broadcast in 480p like Naruto, so a 1080p Naruto ep from Crunchyroll would be an upscale of an upscale, bad news indeed.

Personally, I'd say the only time 1080p is worth the hdd space and download time is when its a BD rip. Rest of the time I'd just stick with 720p and Hi10p whenever available.

I agree with InfestYourMind.... I too watch it on a 40" TV but I lay on my bed around about 2 ft away so 720p is perfect for me...

i agree 720p is enough for us who use monitor to watch anime. Maybe if you have a 55" or 75" tv then u can really tell the difference up close. So how to tell the difference, simple, zoom in the images 20 times, and your eyes will start to see an obvious difference.

Ahh ok thanks guys really appreciate your input... And the guy that mentioned about anime not being broadcasted in 1080p is that for real??? So all these episodes are just upscales??? Well my pc can't handle 1080p but for future preference I was thinking about archiving them... Oh well
