Hey, all. I made this thread cuz I thought it was an interesting subject, at least for me. I apologize beforehand if such a thread was previously made here, but I hope you'd participate in it regardless.

Recently (actually as long as I began watching Anime), random people on forums (those I've read actually, I hate when people generalize upon their on personal experience, but here I go) hated the Shounen genre. Actually, some made it sound like it was a sin to watch them, lol. But anyways, I'm really interested in knowing why people would hate this genre, bare in mind that I already know people tastes differ and what I like might not be so true for the next guy, but I want your personal thoughts.

Also, I find it interesting if we tried to find a correlation between likes and dislikes based on age, so I'd like (if it's not too personal a request) that you'd include your age with your input, even though that's not a must

I suppose I should begin Well, I'm 22 years old (male, lol) and I actually enjoy Shounen Anime (actually I love Bleach, One Piece and Naruto!). I do enjoy other genres as well and I prefer the short ones, too. (no one should wait for 2-3 years for a single storyline to finish )

For those of you who don't know what Shounen genre is, think Bleach, One Piece, Naruto, etc... and you'll get the picture.

I hope this topic is as interesting to you as it is to me

Shounen are pretty cool.

DBZ is one of the greatest anime in existence. Bleach and One Piece are just badass.

If you mean the comedy type (such Gintama) yes, I like. But if you mean these nonsense fight animes, such as Naruto, One Piece and Bleach, no I don't. And even still, there are some times that I don't like Gintama.

Shonen does not mean what you think it means.
It is not a genre.

Azumanga Daioh is shonen, Gunslinger Girl is shonen, a lot of fanservice shows are shonen etc...

Er...you're not trying to counter my claims are you?
Sure, Shonen is commonly characterized by high action shows, but there are plenty of Shonen shows without any action at all, and I watch them.

Shonen is a demographic, not a categorization of long action shows.

This guy is right. Although it gets categorized as Bleach(which I love, by the way) and Naruto, shounen doesn't mean a long series with lots of action and power ups... it just means an anime aimed towards teen males. A lot of comedy-dramas are shounen.
So for a person to say they don't like shounen anime would have to mean that person doesn't like a wide variety of anime. Perhaps they just like serious dramas aimed at adults.
